Learning Ecommerce Strategies by Watching Television Shopping Channels

Why do people watch those shopping channels? The items they show often do not fit into a person's lifestyle nor do the colors and styles match their needs. They often have items for sale many consumers have absolutely no interest in. However, it doesn't take long to hear that they only have a limited supply of items left because the calls have come in and their stock is dwindling.

Let's just say I don't watch shopping channels for leisure. That being said I am convinced that television shopping channels are a metaphor for online business. In this environment entrepreneurs get to parade an almost limitless supply of items that web surfers can review and consider. It's a global marketplace. Sometimes there are things that many consumers have no interest in and wonder why anyone else would and other times those same consumers love the item and want more than one.

The World Wide Web brings the world of commerce to a buyer with demands. The Internet is a marketplace of ideas and 'stuff'. Individuals go to the web to find those things they aren't even sure exist and they venture online to buy something very specific. They indulge in purchases that have touched a memory or are part of a specific region and they sometimes gamble on a purchase featuring something they are willing to try.

There is an allure to the 'introduction'. Humanity has always been interested in the new and improved. They like items that may help them do things better or enjoy life more. When they are motivated they will listen with interest to the introduction to something new. They may even have higher hopes for the product they are considering than can be delivered, but they are at a point of conversion to a new idea. This is the premise behind shopping via television and it is the idea that makes online business so successful.

Have you made your website welcoming to those willing to be introduced to what you have to offer? Have you made your 'about us' page informative and fun?

Think about those shop at home television shows. They always add regular whimsy in an attempt to keep the audience engaged in the human aspects of the product. These sales associates work to sell their products with personality and styles. The end result is calls from individuals from all over buying products they have been 'introduced' to by people they have come to trust while watching their very human sales pitch on TV.

Now think about your website. Is there any touch of humanity there? How does your personality shine through in the sales pitch? What are you doing to instill a sense of trust in your site visitors? Answer these questions and you will begin to see a transformation to your ability to 'introduce' your product to a potentially motivated consumer base.

This can be partially achieved through web design, but it can be enhanced by quality content, the appropriate use of video marketing, blogs, forums and even Twitter posts. Engage your site visitor and you will likely experience a positive impact on your pocketbook.
