December 25 is marked in everyone’s calendar as Christmas day. We usually have a month long preparation for this upcoming special occasion. We clean and decorate our houses with lots of Christmas embellishments and play soft music of Christmas carols. Flowers and plants also played a special role in this holiday season. They come from several kinds, colors, and styles.

The most commonly used flowers used during the season are the poinsettia and winter rose. Sometimes we get confused of which would best fit our taste, using the real ones or the artificial ones.

The Advantages and Disadvantages of having Real or Artificial Christmas Flowers

1. Real Christmas flowers are naturally expensive, since they require utmost care in handling them. Real flowers are subjected to getting dried and wilted and will not last long for a period of time. Regardless of all that, having real Christmas flowers is most advisable during the big day. Artificial Christmas flowers on one hand provide you a lifelong beauty. They’re not prone to drying and wilting which can be very cost effective.

2. Real Christmas flowers have the natural fragrance which adds to their exquisiteness while artificial Christmas flowers has to be sprayed on for scents just for it to smell good.

3. Real flowers requires a lot of time for utmost care and high maintenance while artificial Christmas flowers do not require such.

Since, most people use Poinsettia Flowers during Christmas season. It is very important that you equipped with the knowledge of how to take absolute care of them.

Tips on Taking Care of Poinsettia Flowers

In choosing for an ideal poinsettia flowers, one needs to consider the following:

1. The plant should be a petite with compressed knotted buds placed in the center.
2. The plant should be free from damage, bright and dazzling.
3. Do not display your plant on crowded locations as it is prone to unintentional accidents such as being crushed.

To keep your poinsettia blossoming, you need to:

1. Ensure that the plant is well-watered, removing excess water on the saucer.
2. Place the plant on its recommended temperature. This will prolong the color of the plant.
3. Keep the plant away from warm air or cold breeze.

If you’re on a tight budget, you could make your own artificial flower using the resources you have at home. Here’s how to make a Christmas flower of your own:

1. Get a picture of your preferred Christmas flower. This would at least give you an idea what sort of materials you’ll need in making your own Christmas flower.

2. Look for some used carton or cardboard box, coloring materials, scissors, stick glue, wire, ribbons of any color and other necessary things you may need. You could also consider reusing old Christmas decorations.

3. Draw a pattern of your desired Christmas flower on a cardboard, and then carefully cut it out.

4. Color the pattern with your preferred coloring materials. Oil pastel, crayons, or water color can be used.

5. Assemble the pattern altogether with the use of glue or wire.

6. Fix the design in a more appropriate form making it look natural.

7. Put some accent to the flower by tying a ribbon on it or adding glitters.

8. Put the flower in a flower pot or vase without water.

Always remember that Christmas flowers need not to be costly. Making your own design is more practical and is also a good family activity. Use your imagination and skills to create one that you could surely be proud of.
