These days we are so used to using coupons that we will almost not shop unless we have some handy pet food coupons in our wallet.  The manufacturers have gotten us used to the idea that we should not pay full price, but wait for a good deal. Having  Purina dog food coupons is a great way to save, but not the only way!

Making a home made diet can be another way to not only save on your pet food bill, but also to be able to provide your cat or dog with prime nutrition. Even though the pet food manufacturers and veterinarians (Who have very little education in nutrition in their vet training by the way, and what little they receive is sponsored by the pet food manufacturers, especially Hills who makes the Science Diet -ever heard of conflict of interest?) would like you to believe you will harm your beloved pet unless you use their products, the fact is you can, with some research, make a nutritionally superior, human grade ingredients, fresh food for your pet without all the dangerous and toxic chemicals found in commercial pet food.

The amount of inappropriate and dangerous ingredients in pet food is staggering.  Besides the thousands of cases each year when pets die from pet food containing some mold toxin originating from the grains in the food, and the horrifying fiasco with inferior ingredients imported from China leading to the death of thousands of cats and dogs, if you knew how to read the label on the food you are feeding your pet, you may not be very excited.

Some of the main, but there are many others, culprits, are the grains. Corn and Wheat have no business in pet food. The manufacturers like to call them "Wholesome grains" Believe me, there's nothing wholesome about it! Corn and wheat top the lists of ingredients causing allergies, inflammatory bowel disease, and diabetes, just to mention a few. Soy is another ingredient I would never allow my pet to eat. Soy can have effects on your pets thyroid function and Cheetahs fed soy stopped reproducing. That's not good...

Oh, and we could list all the preservatives, thickeners, coloring agents and the inferior sources of what little protein is in the food supposed to be fed to a carnivore :(   Grrrrrr..........

So maybe you are saving some dollars when using a pet food coupon to buy your pet food. But if you make your own food, you could be saving not only the dollars from the food itself, but you would most likely save on future vet bills and the health of your furry friend. Making your own pet food really is not difficult. Here we make food for a month for our 3 pets and freeze in  containers. We defrost and then serve our carnivore friends fresh meat, bones and organs brimming with vitamins, vital enzymes, essential fatty acids and a perfect balance of minerals suitable for them.

We don't use pet food coupons. We use coupons for our local grocery store to get good deals on the fresh meat our animals thrive on.
