It is a usual business practice for companies to hire the services of an independent contractor in order to perform task which is not usually within the regular business of the corporation. This enables the employing corporation to continue doing business while at the same time pursuing corporate expansion for the purpose of development and increase sales. Hiring a contractor is practical since they are expected to have the required training, expertise, experience and skills. The designation of the contractors employed by these companies depends on the project being proposed and the terms and conditions agreed by the parties. Hence, the task may either be considered as term, project, seasonal, job contracting or labor-only contracting.

When a corporation entered into an agreement with a contractor based on a term, this means that the employment contract of the latter is for a definite period and terminates by its own terms at the end of such period. The decisive determinant in the term employment should not be the activities that the employee is called upon to perform, but the day certain agreed upon by the parties for the commencement and the termination of their employment relation. On the other hand, a contract is deemed as a project if the agreement is to carry out a specific project or undertaking, the duration and scope of which were specified at the time he was engaged for that project. His services are coterminous with the project and maybe terminated upon the end or completion of the project for which he was hired. Usually, these are jobs which are not within the regular business of the corporation. The job is considered seasonal if the work involved is one which occurred during a season and the person hired is laid off after completion of the required phase of work for the season. It is job contracting if the organization hired by the company carries on an independent business with substantial capital and exercises control over its personnel. Otherwise, in the absence of any of the elements, the contract is considered job only contracting.

But with the global economic crisis today, many of these projects are put on halt while others are forced to close down. This is attributed to lack of funding to acquire the needed materials in finishing or maintaining the project. This is where having a credit line can help a contractor especially at this time. A good credit line can help finance a project until its completion. A good credit line is one which allows you to loan money which is sufficient enough to cover the much needed capital while at the same time, imposes a lesser interest. What good would a loan do if it is not sufficient to finance your job? Moreover, it is one which allows the borrower to stipulate on the mode of payment which is convenient to him. Usually, major corporations only hire those who has a good credit line since this serves to them as an assurance that the task will be completed in due time and in good quality, be it for a term, project, seasonal, job contracting or labor-only contracting.
