So you have decided that the days of cultivating a garden that welcome pests, and get you rolling around in the dirt are passé. Its time to bring life (literally) to your patio, and one of the best ways you can do that is by adding a potting bench to your deck. These benches serve as a great workstation to start your patio-top garden. But now that you have decided to get one of these magnificent tools, you don’t know what you necessarily want or need. What style should you look for? What material should it be made out of? Can you get one that will tie in all aspects of your patio furniture?

Doing preliminary research on your potting bench needs can be overwhelming. And if it is your first time looking for a potting bench, seeing all the different benches available on the market, it can be downright frustrating. Thousands of benches being offered, and none of them are necessarily right for you: this annoyance can lead you to settle for the wrong product, and end up with a piece you are never quite happy with.

Before you go out and buy the wrong potting bench, it is good to understand what is out there, so you know what you want before you get talked into the wrong thing. By becoming a better informed customer, you will be ensuring a purchase you will appreciate for years to come, and can serve as the foundation of a better living deck furnishing.

When debating what potting bench to purchase for your patio, it is good to know the different styles available to you. The three most popular style choices include Rustic, American, and Classic. Rustic benches are defined by their classic, weathered looks. These usually give your patio furnishings a lot of older class and charm from yester-year. This style goes perfect with untreated furnishings, or older furnishings that have years of worth out of them. The classic potting bench features all the ingenuity and general features you would expect: a workspace that allows you to gather tools and plants all in one place. These can be made of hardwood, plastic, or even metal, depending on your needs. The American bench is appropriately named for the style and charm that it brings because of its Americana décor and style. Usually made out of hardwoods, the American style bench goes well with newer furniture, and can be worked to fit your patio perfectly.

Once you have decided on a style of potting bench, its time to determine what accessories, if any, you will need to make it complete. Perhaps you don’t like to stand for hours at a time while planting or working on your patio garden. Bench stools can be made around your potting bench at a value. The result is a great place to keep you working in comfort, while adding another valuable piece to your patio furniture set. If you find yourself doing a lot of planting, adding a soil box could be a time saving addition to you. Soil boxes can either be attached to the front of your bench, giving you quick access; or can be added underneath, to catch any loose soil that would otherwise be lost. Knowing what you need will add value in the long run to the right potting bench, making the difference between a furniture piece you just mildly like, and absolutely love.

For the first time buyer, looking at making a potting bench purchase can be a difficult decision. But by being informed, and getting the best information, you too can have a bench that you will love and cherish for years to come.
