Is your family tired of eating off your deck when you picnic on your patio? Have plenty of chairs for your friends and neighbors, but nowhere to put their refreshments? Or perhaps your deck seems a little bare? It is time to stop avoiding the inevitable – you need a patio table. Now, I know what you are asking: “With so many options out there, what choice is right for me? Do I want a cedar table? Or a teak table? Or even a cypress table?” Weighing all the options can be a frustrating figure, especially with all the sales jargon being thrown at you out there.

While you have many different options in purchasing a patio table, there’s one you should seriously consider before putting down your hard earned money on the…well, table (pun intended). Before anything else, before a shifty salesman talks you into something, you absolutely need to consider buying a cypress table.

If you have been in the outdoor furniture market nearly as long as I have, you are probably wondering to yourself why you haven’t heard more about cypress tables before. It is my humble opinion that cypress is one of the best kept secrets in the industry. While it is not as exotic as teak, or interesting as cedar, cypress is one of the most durable woods out on the market. The elements can throw everything they want at this hard wood, and it will never back down. Cypress is given a durability rating of 1 by many industry organizations, due to its hardness and resistance to decay over the years. Even untreated, the lumber will hold up in the harshest of conditions.

Many people choose other options than cypress tables for their resistance to debris and pests – especially termites. Because of the hardness and oils that cypress wood naturally carries, they are one of the most resistant woods to termites out there. Because of the natural resistance that cypress carries, you never have to treat your tables with harsh chemicals or pesticides, which could end up being harmful to your family. This gives your table a natural and welcoming charm you will not find in other woods.

Another great advantage to cypress tables is the fact that they are resistant to warping and shrinking over time. As the elements, moisture, and heat affect your hardwood tables, they tend to shrink and expand and resulting in unsightly warping as time goes on. Because of its density and hardness, cypress naturally resists these elements, shrinking on average 3% as time goes on. This makes cypress an incredible investment, as it has the ability to stand strong as time goes on.

Do you want a unique piece of patio furniture that will give your deck a rustic charm, and will be the entertainment of your family for years to come? Look no further than a cypress table. Because of the unique grain patterns that come with this hard wood, your table is not only a great place to enjoy a summer’s picnic – it is also a fun discussion piece! You will enjoy the charm that this patio table adds as time goes on, and the grains deepen and mature, becoming the focal point of your patio.

While often overlooked, cypress tables can be the best investment you’ve ever made for your patio. Because of its long life, unique patters, and natural resistance to pests, a beautifully crafted cypress table could be the best investment you make in your patio furniture collection.
