When it comes to navigating the dynamic market of Indianapolis real estate, there are several traps that potential home buyers or entrepreneurs can fall into. Most of these are due to a combination of inexperience and common misconceptions, and can be avoided by doing a little research on the basics of real estate. Others you learn through painful experiences tat can have a long term affect on your finances.

The biggest problem met by those considering Indianapolis real estate concern choosing or working with a realtor. Understandably, many people who are not highly experienced in real estate want to go into the process with the help of a professional, so they either seek out a realtor beforehand or haphazardly attach themselves to the realtor handling the first house or property they view.

Realtors can be a great help to those purchasing a home or property in the Indianapolis real estate market. They are trained to help individuals through what can be a very complicated process, from obtaining initial information on a property to closing the deal. Making yourself aware of some of the more common pitfalls and misconceptions regarding realtors can help you to choose the right realtor for you – and break off your business relationship with a realtor who is not the best fit.

Although you may end up choosing a realtor from the firm’s web site on which you found the property, the freedom to make that choice is vital when shopping for Indianapolis real estate. You should never feel trapped in a relationship with a realtor with whom you’re not comfortable.

For instance, we learned the hard way that some realtors will ignore you specific needs and try to sell you homes which they are simply trying to unload. There are plenty of houses on the Indianapolis real estate market, and your realtor may not care which one they throw at you so long as you buy. When we thought we had chosen a realtor, this happened to us, and we learned the hard way that researching a certain property doesn’t mean you’re tied to the firm handling it.

Another trap that realtors may lead you into believing is the need for a non-compete contact. Right off, you need to know that these are not considered legal documents in Indiana, nor are they required. Any realtor trying to sell you Indianapolis real estate through the use of a non-compete is merely trying to make sure they get a piece of the pie once the house is sold. If your realtor is only interested in getting a paycheck, then they aren’t interested in helping you get the home you want.

When shopping for Indianapolis real estate, you need to take your time and only make a decision if you feel it’s the right one for you. Don’t let yourself get bullied by unfair realtor practices, and don’t let a bad realtor try to guilt you into using them after they’ve stopped listening to you. Remember that no matter what, it’s your decision in the end.
