What are the Benefits of Dedicated Hosting vs. Shared Hosting

There are different types of hosting and of those types of hosting are dedicated and shared hosting. Many businesses have different reasons to have one or the other of these. For example, the small business may choose shared hosting because it is cheaper and doesn't require a lot of space. A large business may choose dedicated hosting because they need the space and they need the security.

This means we're going to take a look at dedicated hosting. There are some things about it that stand out above shared hosting and it is important to know what those things are so that you know which is better for you.

Here are the benefits of dedicated hosting versus shared hosting:

*Dedicated hosting allows you to use the entire server. This means you have more room and you have privacy. With shared hosting you're doing exactly what it says you're doing, which is "sharing." You're sharing the space with other websites. You have your own space in the data center that no one else touches.

*Dedicated hosting allows you to have a server on site. This is if you have someone to manage the server. If not, you can get managed services that allow you to still have dedicated hosting. The only difference is that you have someone else managing your server, which is something that is quite feasible for a lot of businesses.

*You don't have to worry about one site pulling everyone down. If something happens on another site that causes the server to become corrupt, it can pull down every other site with it. You don't want to have to have a disaster recovery plan for this if you don't have to. When you're dealing with managed hosting, the hosting company can take care of it, but you have to wait until they get the situation rectified before you can do anything.

*Because you are the only one using the server, you have increased security. You don't have to worry so much about your information being compromised. Unfortunately, on a shared server you run a higher risk of your site being hacked into. Managed services can take care of any problems very quickly, and you can be assured that their disaster recovery plan will be completely thorough. As a managed server host, they keep a close eye on their data center. Unlike a shared server, you know that any issues that arise are solely your concern with no one else to rule out if something is compromised.

As for cost effectiveness, dedicated hosting is cost effective in a lot of ways. You have to take into consideration that having a strong online presence will increase your profits. If you have 100% uptime, are able to host a large amount of space on the Internet, and can frequently update your website, then you are going to be able to get an online following that you can't deny one bit. You'll see the difference in no time and that is what is important. Your dedicated hosting will pay for itself.

So if you have been wondering what the difference between dedicated hosting and shared hosting is, you now know. This is important so that you can determine the type of hosting you want. It doesn't matter if you're looking at managed services, a great disaster recovery plan, or some other benefit. You must realize that dedicated hosting is an entirely different world and a world that you just might want to be a part of.
