There are lots of signs and symptoms and side effects of unhappy marriages and it is really easy to identify a marriage on the rocks from afar. Usually unhappy relationships are the butt of society’s ridicule though you shall have quite a few concerned friends clucking over you in mock sympathy.

Instead of being the fodder of gossip mills don’t you think you should familiarize yourself with these signs and make a conscious effort to turn your marriage into a happy and successful relationship that gives both partners a lot of joy and satisfaction?

A troubled marriage can be where one spouse feels better and more comfortable and acts in a confident manner, as if he/she is in control when the other spouse is absent. For e.g. when a wife is going around with her friends or is at office, she feels much more normal and at peace than what she will feel with her husband around.

You may also be trapped in unhappy marriages when you feel that you are doing your duty towards your spouse, but you are not receiving the same treatment or due respect or recognition for your efforts from your partner’s side.

Sometimes one partner is reduced to a door mat and lets his/her spouse trample over him. You are treated disrespectfully and it is partly your fault because you are allowing this to happen. You are perhaps also aware of what is going on and there is a lot of anger and hurt simmering inside you, but there is no way you can reverse the situation.

You are so scared of your partner and afraid of upsetting him that you treat yourself like trash, are always careful about the words that you utter and have degenerated into tip toeing around your husband.

Another sign of an unhappy marriage is when everybody complains to you about your husband and you fight tooth and nail to defend him from attacks. You often tend to hide many negative things, opinions and feedbacks from your partner for fear of upsetting him.

When you get married to your partner, you have the full right to your partner’s affection and love. You shouldn’t have to convince your partner to love you or show affection towards you. It should come naturally of its own accord.

When you have entered into marriage and perhaps given up your job (mostly applies to women), there are times when you shall have to ask your husband for pocket money and for things to run the household. You shouldn’t feel hesitant to ask for these very necessary things. If you do, it means that maybe your marriage isn’t perfect or ideal.

Sometimes it is seen that you feel more loving and affectionate, kind and caring towards your partner if the latter is sad or broken or in plain bad mood. During these times, the other spouse feels that the latter can be won over by affection and the latter is more humane and vulnerable. These are all signs of unhappy marriages.
