When purchasing your Indianapolis real estate, there are many factors to consider, and one of them is how amicable your home is towards pets. Your pets are a part of the family, and you want to make sure they are at home when it comes to your choice of house. The following are factors to consider when choosing your home for you and your pets.

First off, how large is your Indianapolis real estate? Pets need room, from the slowest cat to the most active dog, they need room to play and romp. Make sure you have enough room for them to wander the home, and that they have a section of the house that’s all to themselves. This doesn’t mean they should get a bedroom, but a corner of a room can easily be converted for their needs.

Second to consider when looking for a pet-friendly home on the Indianapolis real estate market is the accessibility of different areas of the house. Your home will have areas that are more difficult than others to get to, and you want to make sure that your pet doesn’t feel restricted by your homes design. Also, if your pet is older, these restrictions may prove detrimental to your pet’s mobility. This can become a major concern when placing the food and water dishes. Also, if you have cats and dogs, you may want to consider a separate place for each food bowl, as dogs will tend to eat the cats food if they can.

Another factor to consider is the accessibility of the back yard. You want to make sure that your Indianapolis real estate is abler to provide enough space for your pet to wander, and dog owners especially know the value of a large back yard. Make sure they have space to run, and that they can get in and out easily.

If you are a cat owner, your Indianapolis real estate will benefit from having an area just for them to use the kitty restroom. Make a closet or out of the way place their litter box, and remember to change it often. For some, it’s the entry way to the garage or kitchen, while for others it is located in the basement. Wherever it is, make sure its out of the way to avoid the house taking on an odor.

Also, when looking at Indianapolis real estate that is friendly to pets, consider the material the home is made out of. Cat owners especially, you may discover that your carpeted stairs look like an inviting cat scratching post, or that your TV has become a favorite perching post. Make sure your pets understand their limitations and where they can and can’t go. Also, if there are rooms you don’t want your pets getting into, rest assured that they’ll find a way to do exactly that. Remember to keep your doors closed if you don’t want unwelcome visitors.

Your home isn’t just yours; it’s your pets, too. Make sure that when you choose your home on the Indianapolis real estate market that you pick one that everyone, pets included, will feel good about living in.
