The LG KP500 is a cute phone with a cute name. Despite its low price, it has a wide assortment of goodies that are sure to delight and impress. Fans of the Renoir will enjoy this phone, as it has a variety of similar features as well as a few improvements.

Appearance:

The Cookie is slim and stylish—at 89g, it’s more than small enough to fit almost anywhere, be it a pocket, a small purse, even a wallet. It’s available in black, Vandyke brown, Anodising silver, and Elegant gold. Though it’s a teeny, tiny phone, it’s hardly weak feeling or fragile; its casing is sturdy and strong, and the 3 inch screen that dominates its front looks as though it could take a few hard knocks without too much damage. Its buttons are prominent and easy to press. All in all, it’s adorable.

Screen:

The 3 inch 262k Million Colour touchscreen provides a high definition experience. You can view videos, pictures, games, and websites in wonderfully crisp, clear detail. Its user interface is just plain neat looking—it’s similar to the Renoir’s TouchFlo technology in terms of usability and straightforwardness. The main menu allows you to keep your favorite widgets and applications within easy reach.

Its Touch Screen Handwriting Recognition allows you to jot down notes when you need them. (Or doodle during a long business meeting.) LG has integrated its screen auto rotate accelerometer into much of its interface. The screen is fairly sensitive to finger touch, though the phone also comes with as stylus for added accuracy. You’ll also find a screen protector to save your phone from scratches.

Sound:

The Cookie’s sound leaves a bit to be desired, as many find it to be a bit dim. However, it’s not so soft that it interferes with ringtones or the speaker phone. Its media player supports MP3s, WMA, and AAC as well as an RDS FM Radio. Music management allows you to create playlists. The phone also supports polyphonic and MP3 ringtones.

Connectivity:

With only a class 10 GPRS, EDGE, 2.0 USB, and Bluetooth as options, you won’t find much in the way of connectivity—no HDSPA or Wifi, unfortunately, but what it has works very well. Predictive text makes options such as SMS and MMS easier and faster. (Incidentally, the phone comes equipped with an on-screen QWERTY keypad.) Their email interface is simple and convenient as well. Be sure to check out the downloadable games for added fun.

Camera:

The Cookie’s camera is slim and discreet. Located on the back of the phone, its 3.2 megapixel camera comes with a variety of settings to make for clear, accurate photos and videos. You’ll need to stick to well lit areas, however, as there is no flash, but on the plus side, you’ll find an interesting photo gallery and wallpaper options.

Memory:

Memory is one of the Cookie’s strong points. It packs up to 48 megabytes. Its MicroSD memory card allows for up to eight more gigabytes of space. Combine this with the 3.3 hours talk time and 350 hours standby, and you have a great deal.

Verdict:

This is an awesome little phone for touchscreen lovers who want a sophisticated phone at affordable prices. Users who like a lot of applications and goodies with their phone might find themselves a bit disappointed, but you have to admit the Cookie packs an awful lot for such a low price. Incidentally, this makes for a nice second phone for someone who already has all the gadgets.
