Why is the tummy tuck ideal for seniors? As you get older, your belly expands; it's just part of the natural process of aging. Diet and exercise are great for reducing the belly, but they may not be the best option for those of us in our older years. This is why the abdominoplasty is a great solution for older folks.

What Abdominoplasty Is All About

Abdominoplasty is more commonly referred to as the "tummy tuck". Tummy tuck is the mainstay of movie stars, models, moms, housewives and many other types of people; but these days, it's common for folks of all ages to get it done. It's just as popular for men as it is for women. It offers a simple way to reduce your abdominal flab without a lot of hard work.

The abdomen is one of the body's biggest trouble spots for flab. It's also one of the toughest places to get rid of fat. It's usually the first area where fat starts to show. But, not all the tissue there is fat. This is one reason why diet and exercise aren't always the best solution. The tummy tuck is growing in popularity among both men and women who are middle-aged and beyond. Let's look at how it's done.

The Tummy Tuck Procedure

Here is how it works. First, you'll get some kind of sedation. This may be either local or general anesthetic. Talk to your doctor about it before hand, and make sure it won't be a problem with any medications you are taking. Most seniors choose to be out during the procedure, but it's up to you.

The whole thing takes two to six hours. The doctor makes small incisions around the lower part of the abdomen. They will remove some excess tissue, and adjust the tissue that remains so that it follows the natural shape of your stomach muscles. They may remove a bit of tissue using liposuction. The tummy tuck is a flexible procedure that allows the doctor to do exactly what they feel is right to remove the fat. The result is a flatter, firmer belly without the excess flab hanging off.

Recovering from a Tummy Tuck

Most seniors know that as you get older, you don't bounce back from surgery as well as you used to. Doctors know this too, and that is why they will give you special instructions for making sure your belly heals the way it is supposed to.

The most important part of the recovery is to make sure the scars heal. There isn't much pain, but there could be some discomfort. Tell the doctor what medications you are currently taking, and they can prescribe something suitable. The scars should be kept from drying out. You should also refrain from any intense physical activity following the surgery.

In a few weeks, you will be back to normal, with a flat stomach you can be proud of. Everyone will wonder how you did it! Abdominoplasty is a miracle surgery for old folks who are tired of living with the gut.
