Son Bou is a thriving holiday destination on the relaxing Balearic Island of Menorca. Son Bou holidays focus upon Menorca’s longest beach which runs between the attractions and accommodation. Find out where to step off the sand and what there is to see when you do.

Find Your Feet and Your Food

It should be easy to find your way around on your Son Bou holidays. Son Bou lies at the centre of Menorca’s south coast, about half an hour from the Mahon airport. The commercial heart (urbanitzacio) of Son Bou is in the east end of the resort. Here you will find the principal beachside hotels, the supermarket, chemist, medical centre, car hire, and a host of shops including designer stores.

It’s also home to a wide selection of places to eat that will satisfy most tastes and budgets. Several bars and restaurants embrace British styles of fare, as well as further international cuisines such as Chinese and Indian. But it is not difficult to sample more traditional Spanish dishes on your holiday; Son Bou has restaurants that will offer the ever-popular Paella, and Menorcan specialities like caldreta (lobster stew) and chiprones (octopus in batter).

Moving west along the beach from Son Bou, villas and family holiday apartments are set in the gentle hillside of San Jaime. The complex at San Jaime has its own version of the essential facilities you find at the commercial centre. Beyond here is Torre Soli Nou, a quieter area of private properties further back from the beach.

Enjoy the Endless Beach

With the largest beach in Menorca, at two and a half kilometres in length, there’s no shortage of sand and sea on Son Bou holidays. The sand is white and fine, gradually sloping into clear water, with a shallow waterline making it ideal for paddling and good for small children to enjoy. The beach operates a flag system for the safety of all swimmers.

Out in the water you’ll find holiday makers enjoying the fun rides that operate here and a variety of watersports for you to try on your Son Bou holidays. Or perhaps you would rather just look out over the view with a drink from any of the three bars installed along the beach.

Entertainment for Son Bou Holidays

If these bars take your fancy, you may want to try the nightlife of the clubs, quizzes and karaoke that operate during the holiday season. But the area was built with families in mind, so you’ll find plenty of entertainment for the children as well. Water slides, playgrounds, a maze, tennis courts, bowling alley, merry-go-round, and a fun train have been assembled along the length of the seemingly endless beach.

Culture and Nature

It’s not just fun and frolics on Son Bou holidays though, Menorca’s history is also on show for those that like to absorb some culture as they soak up the sun. There are a number of cliff-top cave houses that are remnants of the island’s earliest inhabitants, and at one end of the beach is a fort that dates back to the Iron Age.

Running parallel to the beach is a protected nature reserve and sand dune environment. There’s an area of wetland reed beds set aside, this serves as a feeding and resting place for many species of migratory sea birds. Aquatic birds like their Son Bou holidays too, you see. Near to this is the hillside area known as San Jaime where you’ll find the Son Bou Villas and apartments.

But no-one will blame you if you choose take it easy. With so much beach to enjoy, perhaps the only walk you’ll want will be from your villa to the sand!
