There's nothing to grab the attention of a reader on an otherwise static website than a video ad. These are a relatively new development in the world of online advertising and companies are willing to pay and pay well for space on websites where their video ads can reach their target market. Selling video ads on your website can be a winning monetization strategy for your site if you have managed to build a loyal following with your content. Video ads allow the advertiser to get their message across to your audience in a way which a text or a banner ad can't.

These ads take full advantage of the medium of the web to deliver audio and video content; unlike banners and text advertising which essentially treat a web page as if it were a page in a print publication.

Video ads are memorable and instantly capture the attention of viewers; and selling video ads on your website can bring in a significant revenue if you run a popular website and can manage to find the right advertisers - the companies who have a product, service or a brand message which is targeted towards the same demographic group who make up your readership.

The challenge for website owners who want to make the most of selling video ad space on their site is to identify and contact these advertisers, something most webmasters aren't necessarily experts in. After all, you started your site to get your content out there, but monetizing your website is a worthwhile pursuit and selling video ads can make your site into a source of income if you can find companies who are eager to reach your audience. If you're interested in generating revenue by selling video ads on your site, then you'll want to position your site as a good media opportunity for advertisers.

Of course a lot of advertisers are already using other free video upload services around the internet like YouTube, so you must always offer them more of a targeted solution that just another video on a general website.

You must also optimize your video pages well, as the aforementioned website has google on its side to bring in excellent search results.

Identify your audience in terms of demographics; age, gender and interests are usually easy enough to determine. If possible, knowing their income levels, family status and more detailed information can be helpful in pitching your website as a product which advertisers will be interested in buying into. The larger the audience you have, the more likely advertisers will be to want to advertise with you and the higher of a price you can command for video advertising on your site.

Armed with this information, you can either pursue advertising sales on your own or turn to professionals in the field to find the best advertisers to work with, negotiate the best rates for you and most important of all, allow you to focus your efforts where they will be the most effective; on creating content and building your audience!
