Starbucks has lately been experiencing numerous economic setbacks due to the change in the climate and the times as we know it. First, there was the whole McDonald's debacle, where McDonald's launched an enormous coffee campaign to compete with the large name coffee shop brands such as Starbucks. Now they are having even more issues in one of their Minneapolis stores where the National Labor Relations Board charged the location with 17 counts of labor rights violations. This is actually coming right after a guilty verdict that was found in a New York federal court on similar charges last December. Starbucks used to be an upright and pious type of coffee house that had set itself apart as having high social standards. Right now, one of the main issues that Starbucks is having is their name being smeared with numerous labor violation issues that go hand-in-hand with all the profits that they have been losing during these economic changes.

It is also worth a mentioning that Starbucks actually never succeeded when they branched out into Australia due to the fact that Australia is already well ahead of the US on all of their coffee tastes and needs. Starbucks was hoping to find the same sort of market that they found in the US, where they were number one in creating all coffee demands and expectations. Australia already has developed a vast coffee culture, so Starbucks was forced to close many of its locations in that country. However, since our country has been in a recession, Starbucks has been cutting back on many costs within their locations, including layoffs, less hours, and a larger workload for the remaining employees to bear. Due to those facts, many Starbucks workers have formed their own union to protect themselves against these type of practices. The labor allegations that Starbucks is being charged with in the Unfair Labor Practice lawsuit is that they are forbidding workers to talk about their union and treating union members unfairly.

Starbucks is now being branded as anti-working class, since they have had many issues along these lines with illegal union busting over the past five years. This is something that Starbucks was actually convicted of in federal court in New York during this last year, so they are currently on the radar for their unfair labor practices and issues. This seems to be very surprising for the way that this company began in trying to create their own path for a new and fresh way for the United States look at coffee.
