There are quite a few ways that people go about quitting smoking. Their success all depends on your self discipline and, as such, you should choose yours accordingly. Make sure you read through the whole article before deciding which one to pick!

Nicotine Replacement Therapy is one of the most popular methods for quitting, because it satisfies your body's craving for the drug nicotine. This doesn't mean that quitting smoking is made easy, however, as NRT does absolutely nothing to help your mental cravings, which are the strongest.

Nicotine blocking medications (Chantix, etc.) also work on a physical level, damping your physical enjoyment from smoking. These are more effective than replacement therapy, because they slowly teach your mind that cigarettes aren't that enjoyable, weaning you away from them. The problem is that they are generally prescription only, and you don't immediately stop smoking (it takes some time for your mind to figure out what's really going on)

You may have noticed that the main focus here is on the mental side of your smoking addiction. Take a few seconds here to think about when you smoke. You don't smoke on a regular schedule, such as every 60 minutes or 30 minutes or anything like that. You smoke when you feel the need to smoke.

What happens when you get a call from your mother in law? You light up a cigarette. Boss just yelled at you? Go on break and smoke another. Just finished a big project? Smoke 'em if you got 'em.

The point here is that your mind tells you when you want a cigarette. Your body doesn't trigger you to need a cigarette, your mind does. The key here, then, is to poke holes in your mind's connection with cigarettes. Blocking medications are more effective than replacement therapy in that regard.

You don't want to waste a bunch of time and money on cures that are merely "more effective" than one another. You want the most effective thing you can get your hands on, and to get that you need something that gets into your subconscious to break apart all of those ties. Believe me when I, as a five year smoker that hasn't lit up in over six months, tell you that such a thing exists.

Granted, it wouldn't be a great thing for all those fun nicotine replacement manufacturers if everybody actually were to quit smoking. It's better for everybody to keep trying to quit smoking, so they make a whole bunch of money off of those ridiculous patches that everybody seems to be in love with.

You're better than that though. Several hours from now (depending on how fast you read), you're going to be completely free from cigarettes. You aren't going to want to smoke one, you aren't going to wish you could, and best of all, you're going to know, through and through, that you will never touch another cigarette for the rest of your life. Everybody that you know will be completely amazed at how quickly and easily you've dropped the stinky habit completely, without having to abandon your smoking friends or make drastic changes to your life.
