Jaipur: Dining at the Pink City

Jaipur is the capital of Rajasthan state, India. It is one excellent choice for a vacation if you are looking for a laidback trip and want to experience a different kind of food trip.

Jaipur is the so called Pink City of India. It is divided into six sectors. It was founded in 1727 by the ruler of Amber, Maharaja Sawai Jai Singh. The city has a population of over 5 million people. Most buildings in Jaipur are painted with pink stucco to enhance the beautiful architectural constructions, and attracting more tourists this way.

The restaurants in Jaipur offer exquisite spicy meals and local Punjab-style dishes. It is basic in their food to have onion, garlic and ginger. Most dining establishments serve curries, tandoori chicken, Rajasthani vegetarian meals like Dal Batti, Subji, Mawa Kachori and other delicacies such as dal-bati-choorma (wholemeal balls). Non-traditional cuisines are also available like Italian, Chinese meals and American foods.

Below are lists of restaurants that you may want to visit:

OM Revolving Restaurant
OM restaurant is on the 14th floor of a building in Church Road. The place actually revolves, allowing you to view the entire city. One revolution would take about an hour. This non-camera equipped restaurant is best enjoyed during the night, wherein, you will be amazed at how the city glitters.

Only vegetarian foods are available in this diner. This would include foods like the Kaju Masala. Other popular food choices are Bafla Batti, Jeera Aloo and Churma. Meals for two would cost about Rs 600. OM stops serving lunch at 3:30 pm and dinner stops at 11:30 pm.

LMB Restaurant
LMB Restaurant was formerly known as Laxmi Misthan Bhandar. It serves vegetarian food, along with a choice of onion and garlic on it. Rajasthani Thali is best started of with Papad Mangori Soup. Breads of three different varieties are also available such as Naan, Lachcha Parathas and Missi Rotis. Visitors can buy panner ghewar outside LMB as well as spicy sauces.

The store opens for lunch from 11:30 am to 3:30 pm, snacks at 4 and 7 pm and dinner is served between 7 and 11 pm. Diner for two is at approximately Rs 500.

Handi Restaurant
Handi is located at Mirza Ismail Road. It provides low ambiance but plenty of non-vegetarian food choices. This restaurant is decorated with bamboo walls and plastic chairs. Food favorites are the kathi kababs, buttered chicken and Handi meat (mutton is cooked in a gray pot). Meals for two cost Rs 250. The restaurant is open for lunch at 11:30 am and 3:30 in the afternoon. Hence, dinner is available between 7 to 11:30 pm.

Chokhi Dhani Restaurant
Chokni Dhani roughly pertains to its service of Rajasthani food. Visitors are greeted with bright red tikkas and flowers. There are women dancing with pots, street acrobats, folk dancers and camel rides, delighting the dining experience of the people coming through in the process. Thus, various vegetables, dumplings and bread types are available. Meals for two would cost about Rs 450.

Gulab Mahal Restaurant
Gulab Mahal is a five star stylish restaurant patented by the Taj group. This is a heritage hotel wherein many chandeliers seem to glitter around it. It has a great selection of Rajasthani, Continental and Chinese cuisines. Most visitors love the combination of yogurt and gram flour along with garlic and onions.

Among the popular dishes are its sizzling Murg Methi Ki Bhajia and Maas Ka Soyeta (Lamb on the Bone). It is rolled chicken placed in a Fenugreek leaves. The food is cooked with yogurt. Two meals cost Rs 2500.

Among other restaurants available around Jaipur are the Suvarna Mahal Restaurant, The Copper Chimney Restaurant and the Dasaprakash Restaurant as well as The Palace Café, Jaipur Darbar Restaurant and Surabhi Restaurant.

As more and more restaurants in Jaipur continue to boom, serving different kinds of foods, more guests are attracted and drawn to this city. These restaurants offer a lively atmosphere having a full swing of services. Thus, the growing number of tourists enhances India’s image into becoming one of the favorite dining destinations worldwide.
