Skip the Unemployment Line. Make Your Living Online Instead

Are you recently unemployed? Or have you been unemployed for a while? In either case, I can completely relate to your situation. I’ve live in the Fabulous City of Las Vegas for so long that I might as well be a native. For years, I said that the only people in Las Vegas who don’t have a job either don’t want one or don’t want to work hard enough to keep one. I was known to boast that Vegas is the last place to be hit by a recession and the first place to recover. The rich are the rich. And if you have money to burn, you’re going to find to a place to burn it.

That was then. This is now.

I was unfortunate enough to find myself newly unemployed when the economy started its rapid downward spiral. I was still jobless when it hit bottom. Last week, the State of Nevada had the second highest unemployment rate in the nation, a whooping 10.4%. And I still don’t have a 9 to 5 job.

But this isn’t about me. It’s about you.

So you’re unemployed at what could very well be the worst time to be jobless in your entire lifetime. Are you finding even getting a job, any job, next to impossible? How many apps have you shot in to places that you wouldn’t even consider working at a year ago? Are you fluctuating somewhere in between a state of utter frustration and absolute panic? How close are you to just throwing your hands up in the air and screaming, “I give up,” and just letting yourself be swept away with the tide?

Face it! This is not the world your parents grew up in. We all grew up being told that as long as we were willing to work hard for a living, the world would treat us right. This was the American Dream. You will reap the rewards of your efforts. That promise has fallen to the wayside in the midst of the economic meltdown. And the guarantee of a job that will provide the means to accommodate the lifestyle you have become accustom to is nowhere to be seen on the immediate horizon.

Perhaps it is time to look beyond a traditional job market to make a living. Traditional thinking and the traditional job is what got you in the jam you’re in right now. And neither seems to be ready to throw you a lifesaver while you struggle to stay afloat.

Regardless of what you or don’t do in these trying economic times, the economy will recover. Historically, the U.S. has prospered for far longer periods of time than it has floundered.
