Since the small town roots that brought the Adriondeck Chair on the national stage as a staple of summer comfort and fun, there have been many variations and changes on the original idea. Once seen as a fun place to relax by ingenious man from New York, the chair now comes in many different styles, shapes, and of course, materials. This great variation can make your decision of what your chair should be made out of quite a decision. By understanding the history of how this chair was made, you will be better preparing yourself for getting the right chair for your patio.

The original Adriondeck Chair, as it was built at the turn of the century, was built out of one of the Northeast’s most famous chair: Tsuga Canadensis. Unfamiliar with the tree? You ma know it better as the Northern Hemlock, or the Pruche du Canada in French. This tree was considered suitable at first because of the size, yield of the wood, and durability at the time. However, the Northern Hemlock has become more and more threatened as of late, due to the threat of pests and other environmental problems – meaning getting a chair made of this material will be a true antique to be revered for the class and age, rather than the comfort it can provide.

Now, Adriondeck chairs are made out of a variety of materials, from resin to cedar, and even cypress (depending on the chair). As hemlock was becoming more and more threatened over time, builders of this wildly popular chair had to move forward to new materials that offered the same benefits and comfort. Cedar was one of the most natural choices for many different reasons. First off, because of the composition of the wood, cedar is naturally resistant to pests and other bugs that would want to come after your chairs. Secondly, it has a very pleasant smell that lasts, because of the essential oils contained within the oil. Finally, as a softer wood, chairs built of cedar will offer lasting comfort throughout the seasons, and will offer a long lasting place for your friends and family to enjoy the summer weather.

Cypress and resin have also become very popular choices for the construction of Adriondeck chairs. Much like hemlock, cypress is a very hard and durable wood that is in great quantity throughout the world. While cypress does not offer the necessarily soft comfort that cedar does, cypress naturally casts away bugs, debris, and everything else the elements can throw at it. Because it is made of natural goods, the wood chair will add a touch of class to your deck. Resin is also a very popular material for these chairs – resin, a derivative of plastic, is a nearly invulnerable material that is easy to clean, and allows for stackable construction, as chairs are often able to be stacked.

With a illustrious history, Adriondeck chairs can be a great addition to your patio. And by knowing the history of their development, and how they are built today, you will ensure yourself an item that will bring you joy in your outdoor paradise for years to come.
