New Mexico is known for many things but one of the top reasons that New Mexico has so many visitors every year is because of the beautiful scenery that visitors have an opportunity to see. The deserts here are snow-white and spectacular, the caves are deep and intriguing, and the mountains are rugged and exciting, and the grasslands are lush and wonderful. The natural surroundings that visitors have a chance to enjoy in New Mexico are reason enough to visit the state but what’s even greater as that the state has even more to offer than the beauty of nature. New Mexico also has rich history and culture dating back to long before the area was even conquered by Spain. And history and culture aren’t even the beginning of what New Mexico has to offer to visitors; here you will find everything from festivals to outdoor activities to great family fun.

New Mexico’s history began around 900 – 1300 A.D. at which time villages were made from rocks by the Anasazi people. Some of the village buildings constructed reach as much as five stories high and were made from sun-dried bricks, plaster, and stone. Ruins of these villages can still be visited today by those who come to New Mexico. New Mexico has also been home to a number of Indian Tribes throughout its history as well. For more than 10,000 years tribes such as the Mogollon, the Anasazi, the Pueblo, the Navajo, and the Apache have at some point called the state of New Mexico home. Visitors to the state can find numerous activities, museums, and festivals related to the rich American Indian history throughout the state. From being conquered by Spain to falling under Mexican rule the state of Mexico has an individual and unique history that will both intrigue and delight visitors to the state.

New Mexico also has a variety of outdoor activities to enjoy as well. The state is home to 29 state parks, 13 national monuments, 70 golf courses, and 5 national forests. And don’t forget that although Mexico is predominately desert there is still the opportunity for visitors to enjoy boating, swimming, and scuba diving in one of the states many lakes or the famous Blue Hole in Santa Rosa. New Mexico is also a great place to try your hand at one of the many wind sports that visitors will have the opportunity to enjoy. The state is known for its spectacular blue sky and many visitors come to try sky diving, hot-air ballooning, hand gliding, and parasailing. Finally, New Mexico even offers its guest world class skiing as well. The state is home to ten individual skiing areas including the Enchanted Forest Cross Country Ski Area, and the Red River Ski Area. There is no shortage of exciting outdoor activities in New Mexico!
