You dream of a wedding with a cake so magnificent you fear to cut into it. You know it will be a great moment in your list of beautiful memories. The thought of cutting the cake, hand in hand, and sharing your first bite of sweetness as husband and wife. A moment like this deserves the best. A cake so wonderful that it evokes “ooh’s” and “ah’s” from all the guests.

How do you decide on the cake of your dreams? Are there any questionnaires that you can fill out that will point you in the right direction? Probably not, but that doesn’t mean the decision has to be hard. It is no ordinary task, but it certainly can’t be compared to rock climbing. You and your fiancé will take sheer enjoyment from simply sampling the possibilities.

Your first line of business in the decision-making process is whether your first choice of cake will withstand the date and location of your wedding. You certainly do not want to risk an elegant icecream cake in the middle of an outdoor, summer venue! Consider the cakes that are “in season”.

The fun part is choosing the kind of cake. If you will be having lots of guests, with many different tastes, you could spice things up. When choosing to incorporate several different kinds of cake, you may want to consider adding several tiers to your cake. This gives your guests more options and gives you more room for creativity.

The options available to you are endless. Five, six, even seven tiers. Anything is possible if you can imagine it. The usual white or cream color icing are no longer the only options. You can decide on a color to match any scheme and it can be made to match almost perfectly.

Off center tiers are becoming very popular. The unbalanced levels of the tiers come to even out at the top, but the ‘wobbly’ effect creates a lovely, whimsical effect. From edible flowers and bows, to cupcake incorporated tiers, vows written in icing, and cakes shaped like you, your favorite places or pastimes. See the possibilities here!? The creative venturer in you can have a wonderful time imagining the perfect cake.

They can be as short as one tier or as tall as you are. They can be any color from white to black to anything in between. Any shape, and design, any incorporated genius idea you can summon up could be transformed from cake batter and icing. Imagine it, visualize it, and then sample the taste of it. Have fun with this process and be sure to take plenty of pictures because this is one part of the wedding that will literally be devoured. Just remember to save (freeze) the top tier, the lucky tier, to enjoy on your first wedding anniversary.
