Using Trophy Ridge Meat Seeker Broadheads, I had heard a lot about these broadheads and I have to say that the name also really caught my attention so I decided to give them a try. I have to tell you that I was really impressed with the performance and I would say that they definitely live up to the wild name. A few of the hunters that I know had used them and from all reports they were pretty happy with what they found as well.

I was pretty sure that from the look of them that they would have good flight characteristics and boy did they ever fly true. It was like shooting with my field tips, I had excellent accuracy and that is really the most important thing when it comes to bow hunting. The effectiveness of the broadhead is useless if you don’t hit the target and these broadheads won’t disappoint you in that regard.

When the broadhead reaches the target that is when the magic happens. They have a Piston Hammer that deploys the blades on impact. There are no cams or levers which I find is good because they can often fail. These things worked every single time. Better penetration means that the ability to get a clean pass-through is increased and blood loss is maximized. This way you have a better kill ratio, not to mention the fact that it will be much easier to track the animal once you score a hit.

The construction of the broadhead is of solid stainless steel that is heat-treated for added strength. These make for a very strong, very durable broadhead. Nobody likes to see a broken broadhead and you won’t with these beauties. The blades will release forward so that they can be removed easily from the target which is a nice feature, but at the same time they stay closed in the quiver, which is also very good.

How they Work

The head is rotating and the grooved tip reduces the planing and wind resistance to almost nothing. Flight is excellent with these broadheads. Once you strike the target with these, the tip inserts and the piston cylinder located behind the tip shoots forward and allows the blades to expand from the rear. At this point the tip is entering the target and the blades are opening up fully. Before the blades enter the target they are fully opened, and they are locked in position. This means that the cutting diameter is greater without impeding the flight of the arrow. The fully deployed blades mean that the wound channel is wider and that the bleeding is increased. Because there is little loss of kinetic energy the chances of the arrow passing right through the target is increased and this will really increase the blood trail. They have a great non-barbed design which means that the blades will release forward facilitating easy removal from the animal.
