The Annapurnas

A family holiday in the Annapurna mountains of Nepal provide the perfect destination for both little and long legs. A four-day trek provides the perfect gentle pace through the Annapurna foothills and tired youngsters can even enjoy a carry up the hill in the mountain Sherpa’s specially adapted cane baskets. Children love animals and unique blue sheep and furry pikas are bound to enthral your children. Many operators even offer a jungle an elephant-back safari expedition, which is a great way to introduce your children to some more elusive members of the local wildlife. If you are your family are fans of adventure holidays, then a rafting expedition along the Trisuli river is another must. Leaving the mountains behind the bustling town of Kathmandu offers loads for them to see and do from ancient temples such as the UNESCO site of Swayambhunath to bustling market squares with ancient wares and unique foods that are sure to astound and delight your little ones.

Everest

The Annapurnas may be a great introduction to the foothills of the Himalayas but families with older children can move straight in with a faster paced Everest trek. The family trek starts in the bustling city of Kathmandu with its many ancient temples and bustling bazaars. Children will love the next part of the trek holiday which involves catching a light aircraft to the Everest region, which is bound to make feel them feel like their favourite superhero and which will no doubt provide one of the key highlights of the trip. The Everest trek takes in some stunning Sherpa villages, before arriving at the Sherpa capital of Namche Bazaar where it is customary to have a puja (blessing) before continuing along the trek. Everest is the perfect destination for a family holiday and we can guarantee that your children will be bragging to their friends about the time they climbed the highest mountain in the world for years and years to come.

Machu Picchu

Whether your child has studied the Incas at school or is a fan of TV programmes like Indiana Jones, Tomb raider or even Dora the Explorer, Machu Picchu is the perfect destination for a family adventure holiday. The trip is action packed with forays into the Amazon Jungle in search for of unique wildlife and river-rafting excursions in the Amazon River Basin – perfect for the more adventurous of families.

Your children will love the myths and legends from the time of the Incas and will enjoy the thrill of visiting ancient ruins. The local children will be happy for them to join in their traditional Peruvian games and you will all be made to feel very welcome whilst on your family holidays. The family trek starts near Cusco and takes in the beautiful mountain peaks and colourful meadows of the region and, with its wonderful winding train journeys and a visit to the awe-inspiring Machu Picchu, this trip is ideal for people of all ages.
