With the economy being in the shape that it is in today many people are finding joy in life's simple pleasures. One of those simple pleasures is candles. Candles, with their warm glow, give a sense of peace and relaxation that is often difficult to find these days. For those looking to enjoy this inexpensive little treasure there is a wide variety of options. Today candles are made in all shapes and sizes and almost any scent you can think of so there is definitely a candle out there that is suited just for you.

One type of candle that many people enjoy for it's simple elegance is the tapered candle. These candles are long and skinny and work great for a romantic candlelit dinner. Tapered candles come in a wide variety of colors and sometimes can even be found in a number of scents. Tapered candles also work well in wall sconce candle holders as well. Caution must be taken with these candles though as the wax will run down the candle and if not careful possibly on the floor or other surface below the candle. For those individuals who are likely to forget about a candle being lit it may be a better idea to use an alternative to the tapered candle.

Another popular candle is the votive candle. These can be put in glass votive holders and are great because you don't have to worry about running wax getting on any of your prized possessions. Often you will find votives in a large selection of colors and scents so they are great for any décor. Although votives do not burn as long as some varieties of candles if they are put in the right size holder they will burn longer than if they are put in a holder not much larger than the candle itself.

Pillar candles are also a commonly used variety of candle. These candles are great because they burn for a considerably long time and they come in a number of sizes, scents, and shapes. Pillar candles are usually placed in holders or on plates. You will find that there is a huge variety of holders so these candles can be made to look elegant, festive, or fun with a simple switch of holders. You can even find pillar candles with dried flowers and herbs in them, a nice touch for the both the candle and the nature lover.

Finally, for those that really enjoy decorative candle holders there are tealight candles. These candles are small and don't burn for an extended amount of time but they are great because they cast a beautiful glow when grouped together in a candelabra or other holder. Tealights are also very inexpensive and come in large packages so they are easy to keep on hand. Many individuals find that tealights work great for them.

With so many different varieties of candles to choose from its no wonder people take so much enjoyment from them at a time when many individuals can afford few luxuries.
