Attracting the 'right' internet traffic to your website is the key to designing an effective pay per click advertising campaign. You pay for every click on your advertisement, so you should ensure that only visitors who are interested in your products or services actually click on your advertisement. You should also ensure that visitors to your site are able to find everything they want quickly and easily so they will be more likely to patronize your site than go looking elsewhere.

Use The Best Keywords

Using general keywords such as 'shoes' will bring you many clicks but few customers. Your keywords should accurately describe your business and exactly what you are offering visitors in terms of products and services.

Your Ad Copy Must Be Relevant

The best advertisements target a specific audience that has the highest potential of being customers. Emphasize the features of your product without making it sound like a gimmick. You should also include your keywords in both the title as well as the description of your advertisement. This will reinforce the impression given to customers that your product is truly what they were searching for. You will usually have to contend with space limitations, so be accurate and concise with your titles and descriptions.

Budgeting

Most pay per click programs will allow you to set your own budget. When you first start, set a small budget with a few keywords and advertisements. Then pick the best and build on that. While bidding high for a top position may bring you more clicks, some of these clicks will simply be compulsive clickers who are unable to resist clicking on the first few results even if they are not remotely interested.

Getting into a bidding war for keywords is unwise however, as there will be many more alternatives that are less expensive and that will likely prove just as effective. If you keywords of choice turn out to be too expensive, then you should search for similar keywords that are not so highly contested, as this will allow you to generate traffic without spending too much on advertising.

Experiment With Your Advertisements And Monitor The Results

Experiment with different keywords and advertisement wordings. Pay per click programs allow you to track the number of clicks for each advertisement you put up, and from that you can identify which advertisements work and which do not.

You can also designate unique tracking URLs to use with each advertisement in order to determine just how many of the visitors to your site come from people clicking on your ads. You can then figure out just how many clicks were converted into sales and make changes to your ads and their positioning accordingly.

As you experiment with the various advertisement wordings and styles, you will eventually find some that are the best possible and this will bring in the maximum amount of traffic that you can achieve through pay per click advertising.

This is simply the first step of many, however, and you need to ensure that you have persuasive copy, navigation that is user-friendly, and an eye-catching design that will both attract visitors and make them more willing to patronize your business.
