Federer vs Sampras 14 Tennis Grand Slams Each But Who is the Best? By Paul Gold At Isnare.com Ezine Articles

So just over one month ago all the so-called tennis experts (including you – probably!!) were all scratching their heads wondering whether Roger Federer would ever win another Slam and "BANG" he goes and wins the one we just didn't see happening - The French Open after beating Soderling pretty easily in the final at Roland Garros.

He had a couple of scary moments along the way

Everybody thought that Rafa Nadal was unbeatable on clay at the French and that Roger would have to wait until Wimbledon to have another go at catching “Pistol Pete”.

But Nadal wasn’t, he didn’t win and Federer took full advantage of the situation and by doing so put himself in that very small and very elite group of players to have won all 4 Majors.

He is now also level with Pete Sampras on 14 Grand Slams in total.

It was so fitting that the last man to have won all 4 Majors was the man to present the trophy – Andre Agassi. (who also won the French to complete his personal series).

And surely the way he finished played at the French Open suggests that the 15th Grand Slam title is now only a matter of time!!!

But while they are tied at 14 titles each we could and maybe should do some reflection.

We could have a bit of fun.

Think about this for a minute

If it was possible to arrange matches between Pete Sampras & Roger Federer playing at their peak at all of the 4 Grand Slam venues - Australian Open, French Open, Wimbledon & US Open as a series of matches, who would come out on top?

(How much would you like a ticket for these matches??)

More to the point, who do YOU think would come out on top, where?

Let me know what you think and then give me the main reason why you think they would win.

So for example – If you think Pete Sampras would win in Australia because his volleys are better, then put down the following ……..

I know they played a few exhibition matches at the end of last year but these are different. You have to imagine both players playing at their best at the peak of their careers.

P.S. Whatever happens let's not forget that there would be no Federer without Sampras!!

It has no bearing on the outcome of these “matches” but just a thought.
