#1 Devil’s Island
Somewhere on the coast of French Guiana lie three islands known as Îiles du Salut. Devil’s Island is the most modest in size, being located far in the north from the French Guiana. The island became famous for being the place where the French held their prisoners until the 1950s.

Devil’s Island is well known throughout the entire world as a small island that is widely populated with palm trees, barely rising above the sea level. However, it is the same island where Napoleon opened one of the most notorious prisons in history.

In time, Devil’s Island was made even more famous through an avalanche of movies, songs and even books. When Henri Charriere published his book Papillion, presenting his escape from Devil’s Island, the notoriety of this place was definitely established. Many rumors were started and it goes without saying that Devil’s Island became one of the most interesting places to visit in South America.

#2 Manaus, Brazil
Did you ever wonder what it would be like to travel to a place where the greatest sport is piranha fishing? If you are looking for a unique adventure, then this is the destination for you. The important thing is that you arrive at the destination, as Manaus can only be reached by boat or plane. You are heading straight into the heart of the jungle for a sport that may seem dangerous but in reality is actually something quite extraordinary.

While in Manaus, you will probably discover its rich history with the pretty amazing Opera House built more than 100 years ago. You will travel by boat on two rivers, the Rio Negro and Rio Solimoes. And probably the most interesting thing is that they have different temperatures, one being warm and the other cold. You will sleep in the jungle in hammocks and have the unique opportunity to find freshwater dolphins.

#3 Peninsula Valdes, Patagonia
Famous for whale observing, Peninsula Valdes is definitely one of the craziest places in South America. Why? Because you do not only get to watch the Southern Right Whale but also to touch them. That’s right. This unique encounter happens in the waters of Argentina and is definitely a wild experience. They come to breed around Chile coastline and while you are in your boat, they are so close that you can actually touch them for a brief moment!

#4 Salar de Uyuni
We are talking about the biggest salt lake in the world, a hidden treasure found in the southern parts of Bolivia. With a surface of over 10.000 km2, it’s no wonder that it is such a major attraction. While touring those parts of Bolivia, you can also encounter some of the most amazing lakes (green and red) and geysers.

#5 The Nazca lines
Travel to Peru and then to Nazca desert. Hire a plane to take you in the air and prepare yourself to be amazed. Huge drawings left by unknown people or aliens are there for you explore and discover. There are Colibri birds, flowers and different types of animals, monkeys and spiders. Keep in mind that they can only be viewed from up above.

#6 Café con Piernas
They serve your coffee with a great looking pair of legs in one of Chile’s interesting coffee shops. Sip your espresso and watch the waitress deliver orders in their revealing outfits.
