The following stories of evangelism children are sure to bless your heart! Would that all believers, young and old, had such courage!

• A young boy (only six) asked his parents how he could share Jesus with his teacher. They lived in a country where Christianity was forbidden, so he couldn't openly give her Christian resources. One day when he went to school he carried a Bible and Jesus video in his backpack. After speaking quietly to his teacher and finding out that she wanted to know about Jesus, he left his backpack open when he went out to play at recess, allowing the teacher quick, easy access to the Bible and Jesus video. Because of this very young boy's courage, he was able to see his teacher come to believe in Jesus!

• A ten-year-old girl became a believer in Jesus Christ in a communist country and couldn't help but give God the glory when she did well on a test in school and was asked about it by the teacher. She had prayed for God's help during the test and, although she knew there would be consequences, she had to tell about God's grace. She angered the teacher, and days later the government seized the entire family- they disappeared and their location is still unknown.

• 13-year-old twin boys in a Muslim country refused to take a test on Islamic beliefs and risked flunking their grade. Their parents told them that they could take the test if they wished so they could go to the next grade, but neither boy answered a single question, and instead wrote on their tests that they were Christians.

• A very young girl confronted a man on a street corner about his language, and because of that confrontation, the man saw that dishonoring God's name by using it as a curse word was a sin.

What gives these children such bravery, daring to defy their very government, and even putting their own families in the path of mockery, danger, and death? How is Christianity different for these children than for children in free countries where they can believe and practice whatever kind of religion they wish? I think there are at least three possibilities:

• The children in free countries hear so many views about "God," whether in schools where they're taught that they must have an open mind to everything, or at church, at home, or with friends. The fact that they can choose what they want to believe from among such great variety can cause some to avoid taking a real stand. Because of the encouragement to have religious tolerance, many become soft in defending or sharing what they claim to believe.

• Not only is there the challenge of tolerating all religions, there are so many distractions presented by the media that easily snatch children away from giving any serious thought to Jesus. He becomes a part of their life (because after all, no one wants to go to hell), but is not their entire life, and is not more important to them than the distractions thrown at them day after day.

• Children (and even adults) are afraid or ashamed to share their beliefs because they don't clearly understand the Bible and who God is. Teaching the whole Bible as one story with one theme is being done less and less, and if children don't see how that God is the One who created, then redeemed them, they won't have any desire to share Him boldly. But, if they are taught the story of the Bible and what God has done on behalf of the entire world, and what their lives would be without Him, they will not only believe themselves, they will want everyone they know to believe. There would be very little that would keep them from sharing what they know to be true, and there is nothing more challenging to the heart than seeing a child who lives what he or she believes.
