Used Golf Ball Grading

Today used golf balls are graded according to the usage and condition of the golf ball itself and there are generally 4 grading scales as follows-

AAAA Grade (or Mint)
Used golf balls of this grade have both the appearance and feel of a brand new ball). They should be very close, if not in perfect playing condition.

AAA Grade (or Grade 1)
Used golf balls under this grade should be lightly used, often narrowly missing out on the mint grade. AAA grade balls may have minor surface discoloration and possibly ink marks. The condition of these used golf balls should not affect the trajectory, flight path, or distance of the ball.

AA Grade (or Grade 2)
Used AA grade golf balls are generally in very good playable condition but could be sold with scuffs and may carry a heavier discoloration. Some companies will offer them with cuts or creases and they may be some practice balls found in the collection.
