Before I list specific tools, let me share what should be included in the tools, and why:
• Who God is- In today's world, it's startling to observe how many people don't know anything about God or the Bible. How can we share God's salvation plan if they don't know Him, or why His Word is important?

• Why man needs salvation- Of course, if people don't understand God and the Bible, they won't understand when they're told that they need to be saved. They need to be taken back to the beginning and taught about Adam and Eve, the fall, and the penalty of death placed on them and all of their descendants. They need to see God's complete abhorrence of sin, the gap there is between themselves and God, and how helpless they are to do anything about it.

• Why God would provide salvation and what that provision is- This is where they can see the love of God displayed, and understand how staggering it is in light of the sinner. They need to be shown how God took care of sin in the Old Testament as an example of what He would one day provide for the human race. If they don't understand the significance of the sacrificial system, they won't understand the importance of Jesus' death.

• What man can't do to earn salvation- People must understand that there are no works good enough to acquire salvation. Show them the Ten Commandments given by God to demonstrate that no matter how good mankind tries to be, the commandments cannot be kept perfectly, and nothing less than perfection will be acceptable to God. They can be taught about Jesus' perfection and His willingness to die in the place of man to pay the penalty of sin and death.

• All that is needed for salvation- Now it can be revealed that all God asks of sinful man is belief that He is who He says He is, and that Jesus is the only one who could pay the penalty for sin and did so through His death.

So, now that you know what should be included in the tools you use, what are some of these evangelism tools that never wear out or grow old?

• Conversation- This is probably the most frequently used and, of course, it never wears out or grows old. Conversation can be hard for some, but there are very few people who wouldn't enjoy a good conversation with you. Some people have, when they turned to talking about spiritual things, used visuals to help illustrate what they're saying.

• Books- A book that shares the message of the Bible from beginning to end is a nifty tool for those who might have an interest in spiritual things, but don't understand a lot. It's also a good conversation starter for those who really don't think they're interested. It's surprising how many people who may not be as willing to talk to you will accept a free book.

• Videos- In the day of media and electronics, giving someone a video about the Gospel can have an outstanding influence on his mindset. Since there is so much in the way of television influence it's become a lot more common for people to be disinterested in reading. These people would be a lot more likely to watch a presentation of the Gospel than they would be to read about it.

• CD's- Although ipods are becoming more and more predominant in the audio world, there are still very few people who don't have CD players, or who would be disinterested in something new to listen to.

• Tracts- This is, of course, the most common tool used in evangelism. It can be a terrific way to start a conversation, but if you only have time to hand someone a tract before he walks away, you want to make sure that the content explains the whole Gospel. With people becoming more and more unfamiliar with God and the Bible, what you give them ought to include the listed items from above.
