With Fathers Day and beautiful weather right around the corner, you may be wondering what types of gifts are available for the wonderful people in your life. If your loved ones are outdoor enthusiasts, especially hikers, gift giving has never been easier.

You may think that once your hiker has a pair of boots, they are set for life. But today, there are so many wonderful accessories and gadgets for hikers in all price ranges, the possibilities are endless. Ask your hiker what they feel they are missing from their hiking excursions or just choose one of the great options below. Some of these options are hiking magazines and books, a compass or compass app for their Iphone, a Roll–A–Table or a Lightening Strike Alert.

Hiking books can be found for any state and even for destinations abroad. They can be purchased for very little money (some around $6) and can give your hiker some great ideas as to where to plan their hikes and what to expect in different areas. Along the same idea, you can get them a gift subscription to Backpacker Magazine for around $24 a year. This will give them a constant stream of new destinations to plan for, as well as tons of helpful hints and tips. This gift will keep on giving for an entire year!

If your hiker prefers to do their reading on the internet, there are a few forums and online hiking sites that you need to pay for to become a member. Why not give them a years worth of membership to their favorite hiking site.
Another great idea is a compass or compass app for those hikers who are fans of the Iphones. A compass will ensure that your loved one never gets lost (or if they do, at least they will know what direction they are lost in). You can pick one of these up for around $50 to $100. The compass app can be loaded onto the phone so they don’t have to carry a separate gadget.

The Roll-A-Table can be purchased for around $50 and is great for hikers who don’t want to eat their lunch off the ground. They have hiked for a long time and may want to sit down and have a sandwich without dirt in it. It is flexible and rolls up into a tube which can easily be thrown over their back. They will appreciate you every time they eat a civilized meal out in nature.

Another gadget which is great for the safety minded is a Lightening Strike Alert. This pager size device can be attached to a belt loop or tossed in a backpack and will notify the hiker when conditions are optimal for a lightening storm. The advance warning will give them sufficient time to seek out shelter and will keep them safe.

Whatever gift you choose, you will ensure that the hiker in your life is happy and has the tools they need to make the most out of their hiking experiences.
