Is it really advantageous for you to attempt to achieve the four hour work week by paying others to do some of your tasks or is it smarter to keep a tight reign on your online business? The answer will depend on a lot of factors but it's a subject work considering, especially if you're getting to a point where you feel your business has grown enough to warrant getting help. Something that a lot of solopreneurs have a problem with is the amount of time they spend working on administrative tasks. Not only can they often get a task done cheaper but they can also get expertise so that certain tasks can be done more efficiently than if they did it themselves. Instead of being a jack or jill of all trades, you could contract out some tasks to professionals.

What are the advantages of outsourcing?

There are a lot of people available to help you with your business. From freelance writers, web designers, programmers and coders, to virtual assistants and product affiliates you can go from a one man (or one woman) shop to a company that has multiple sets of hands and eyes working to help you become more profitable without your having to work 80 hours per week.

What are the disadvantages of outsourcing?

If you're not extremely careful about finding the right people for the job and keeping your finger on the pulse of every aspect of your business, your business could be drastically impacted before you're able to prevent loss of traffic, customers and profits. Some entrepreneurs begin outsourcing too much, too soon. It might be better to take it slow, outsource one small task at a time, and carefully monitor how it impacts your business.

Finding the right people to do your tasks can be a challenge. You can put up an ad, surf the net for a professional or an agency with the right skills, or you could go to a job bidding site and try to find someone that way. But for many, it is hit and miss and a lot of entrepreneurs have to deal with a few painful experiences before they either find great help or revert to doing everything on their own.

It can be difficult to determine an adequate price for services for hire. Pricing can vary significantly based on many factors such as the experience level of the freelancer and their country of residence. For some tasks, native language is a factor and for other tasks, it's not as important. What is important is that the act of outsourcing doesn't cost you more time and more money than doing it yourself and it's also important to be sure that this is not going to be to the detriment of your business.

When your business is successful and begins to grow to the point where you feel that you need some help, it's important to take the time to find the right person or people to help you. It's also wise to take things slow so you can assess whether the relationship is working, whether it's profitable, and whether it makes sense for your business. It may take time to find the right mixture of outsourcing and doing tasks yourself.
