January

January marks the beginning of the Galapagos environmental year, where birds begin nesting, sea turtles come to lay their eggs, male marine iguanas become brightly coloured and the reproductive cycles for land iguanas begin. This is the perfect time for a Galapagos holiday, with water and air temperatures rising and staying warm until June.

February

This is a great time for Galapagos island tours, where the water temperatures are at their highest. Flamingos and doves begin nesting, and white-cheeked pintails begin breeding. It is certainly a colourful time for a Galapagos holiday, where you can enjoy the sun, and swimming in the warm ocean waters.

March

With water temperatures still at their maximum, on a March Galapagos tour you can spend lots of time swimming. The weather is interesting, with bouts of sporadic rain and intense sun. You can spend a few weeks in March lounging on the beach on a Galapagos holiday, as air temperatures reach up to 86°F.

April

Animal life picks up in the Galapagos in April, with the mass arrival of the albatross to the islands. If you go on a Galapagos holiday during this month, you will be around for the hatching of sea turtles and land iguanas, an interesting sight to behold.

May

A Galapagos tour during the month of May can include some interesting aspects. Palo Santo trees begin shedding their leaves, and marine iguanas’ eggs hatch. It is a beautiful and colourful time to visit the island on a Galapagos holiday.

June

A Galapagos holiday in June will show you the islands at the beginning of the dry season. The giant tortoises begin migrating to the lowlands, and find suitable places to begin their nesting. It is a fascinating time to visit the island, and slightly quieter than the busier early months when animals were arriving, breeding and hatching.

July

Galapagos tours in July could focus on the active bird life. Sea birds are busy during this time, and if you’re lucky you will spot a whale off the Western coast of Isabela.

August

Galapagos holidays during August see cooler temperatures in the islands. Migrant shore birds start to arrive and the giant tortoises return to the highlands. Despite the cooler temperatures, the weather is still pleasant and mild, and you can still enjoy the islands’ beautiful scenery.

September

September is a great time for a Galapagos island tour. The air temperature is at its lowest, but marine life is busy. Penguins can be seen going about their business on Bartolomé, and sea lions are particularly active in the western and central areas of Galapagos.

October

October is a quieter month on the islands, and a Galapagos holiday could allow for quiet times of still beauty. Galapagos fur seals begin mating, giant tortoises lay eggs, and life carries on quietly in the archipelago.

November

On a Galapagos holiday in November, you will likely focus largely on the magnificent sea lions. The pups are born during this time, and sea lions begin to mate again in the Eastern Galapagos.

December

As the year comes to an end, giant tortoise eggs begin hatching once more, and green sea turtles begin mating. It’s a great time for a Galapagos island tour, as December marks the beginning of the warm season. The island begins to turn green, making for beautiful scenery on your Galapagos holiday.
