If a weekend with friends and family is on the cards, then spice up the event by throwing in a sport. Fun and frolic is what all adore at such events and if you run down your available options, the washers game shall surely stand out as a good choice. The game is preferred by all age groups and is amenable to both indoor and outdoor conditions.

The previous experience with bean bag toss games is helpful in understanding the washer game. Difference between the two lies in the mere fact that in one washers are thrown while in the other, bean bags are used. The fun game pitching washers is also called as washers, washer toss, washer pitching and Texas Horseshoe. The game is played by 2 or 4 players who play singly or in doubles. Opposing teams stand on each end of the playing strip and throw washers in washer boxes or washer boards placed on the opposite ends. The aim is to make the washers land in the cup of washer boxes or holes of the washer boards.

Plastic coated metal washers with a hole in their midst are the standard washers utilized in the game. Another option is galvanized steel washers. The other accessory needed for the game is a couple of washer boxes with cups or washer boards with holes on them. You shall require 2 washer boxes of wood or plastic and an 8 washers set. 4 washers are in one color and the other 4 in another color such that the opposing teams of players can have washers of one color. In washers game, washer boxes are placed about 20 feet from each other. The stage is now set for the fun to start. Each player or each team member now begins the task of tossing the 4 washers in one round. If the washer ends up inside the cup of the washer box, it is counted as 3 points. If the washer falls outside the cup but manages to land on the box, it is worth 1 point. The washer falling outside the box earns nothing.

One round over, the lower scores are deducted from the higher ones and the remainder awarded as final scores. The game carries on until one team reaches 21. The game owes its popularity to its simplicity and childlike fun. If you are a bean bag toss game veteran, you are bound to love pitching washers – even for the inexperienced players the game is cool fun. When playing with washer boards, the scoring pattern changes slightly – it becomes based on the fact that whether a player can make the washer fall into one of the holes of the washer board. The nearest hole is worth 1 point, the second hole has 3 points and the farthest hole earns 5 points. Not hitting the board means zero points.

The paraphernalia associated with the game is different and the size measurements differ. Playing and scoring patterns also keep changing – but one thing that remains the same is the fun associated with it. The washer games have one big plus point – they may easily be arranged in one’s backyard without causing any harm to the grass or grounds. This is not true for horseshoes, that are bulky to carry and the set up damages the grasses usually.

Bean bag toss games can also complement the washers game well and you can alternately play these to enhance the interest of the players. The children’s bean bag games can go well for kids in which bean bags in which nets are used to catch the bean bags and scoring is also done in a different manner. Kids will simply fall in love with game and it can make for great family fun. So, go ahead and get on with the fun to make the most of your weekends by lending an element of unique entertainment in style.
