One of the best reasons to purchase new doors and windows in the year 2009 is the Federal Energy Efficiency tax credit program that was recently passed by Congress. This program states that if you purchase new, energy efficient doors or windows this year, you can be eligible for a tax credit of 30% of the price of these doors and windows up to a maximum amount of $1,500. A tax credit is a dollar for dollar credit on your taxes, so you can literally save a bundle on your taxes this year.

For those of you who are still debating what type of energy efficient doors and windows you want to purchase for your home, you may have more time to make your decision than you think. That’s because Congress decided that the program wouldn’t end one December 31, 2009. You can actually still qualify for the tax credit when you purchase new, energy efficient doors throughout the year 2010 as well. And besides just saving you money in the short run when you purchase new doors and windows, you can also save money in the long run with your monthly utility bills.

Another reason to purchase new doors and windows for your home is the fact that it will make your home look newer, potentially increasing its resale value. When homebuyers are shopping around for a new home, they typically are uninterested in those residences that show major signs of wear and tear acquired over the years. These signs are typically most apparent in the both the interior and exterior doors of your home, as well as the windows. Installing new doors and windows can literally take years off the face of your home.

Old windows that never seem to come clean, no matter how you scrub, are a major detraction from the potential resale of your home. If you’ve had difficulty making your windows shine and look appealing over the years, a potential homebuyers will as well. New windows that are easy to clean and care for, however, could be a major selling point if or when you decide that you’re ready to try someplace new. Vinyl windows are particularly great for installation in any home because they are mold and mildew resistant. This means that they will be much easier to clean and care for now and in the future.

New doors can provide you with better insulation and temperature control in your home. This is because of the innovative thermal core technology that is available on a large variety of exterior doors being manufactured today. Thermal core technology helps keep your home a more moderate temperature inside by keeping the elements and other weather factors outside where they originated. Older doors easily allow drafts and cold breezes to come in, making your heating system work so much harder to keep your home warm. With the thermal core available in most new exterior doors today, however, you won’t have to worry about drafts and breezes anymore.
