A couple of weeks ago, I was driving in my car when I glanced over and saw this woman applying eyeliner while waiting for the light to turn green. First of all, I thought it was pretty amazing because she didn't just have eyeliner in her hand. I noticed that she had her entire makeup bag thrown up onto the dashboard in which she would occasionally rummage through it. She was working fast to apply eyeliner, eyeshadow and lipstick in a matter of seconds. I couldn't help but think that there surely had to be some sort of reward out there for the wizadry that was going on next to me. Nonetheless, as soon as the light turned green, I made sure that I was well ahead of her

It seems that for most of us, our vehicles tend to be an extension of ourselves. We use our cars, trucks and SUVs as extended powder rooms in which we can “freshen up” our appearance. We also use our vehicles as bedrooms as many of us will take naps in our cars if given the chance. We even use our cars as a restaurant or cafe- a place in which we can sit down to a lovely dinner of fast food while we listen to the radio! But truth be told, this is not what the intended purpose of our vehicle is. You don't arrive at a dealership and hear other salespeople telling prospective clients, “Now, when you want to enjoy a good meal, this is the car for you to do it in...”

When you are in your car, you should really be focused on driving safely, obeying the laws of the roadways and paying attention to what other drivers are doing so that you will give yourself plenty of time to react. However, more and more people have taken to using their cars for the aforementioned reasons. Of all the female drivers out there, a good chunk of them are, have been or will be guilty of doing their makeup at some point. If you know that you have an important meeting or a dinner date, give yourself extra time in the morning, noon or evening to take care of what you need to prior to stepping foot in your vehicle! If you absolutely have no time to do your makeup before you get into your car, then at least wait until you arrive at your destination, or pull off a few blocks before your destination to throw something together quick; don't do it while you are behind the wheel! Not only is doing your makeup in the car distracting to other drivers, but it puts them at risk and may cause them to react poorly to what it is you're doing.

Drivers are curious creatures. Think to yourself of how often you are stopped at a light or are passing by another driver on the roadway. Now, how often do you glance over to see what they look like or to see what they are doing? If you saw another driver reading a newspaper so that he or she could barely see the road in front of them, how would you react? Sometimes accidents happen because other people react poorly based on how they perceive or anticipate things playing out. Leave the makeup alone until you are parked!
