For many couples, their union not only brings them together but their beloved pets. Adding them to the wedding and even the wedding reception is becoming a common practice. You do need to have well behaved pets though for this to work. There are many ways in which you can tastefully have them at your wedding reception.

First, you need to think about where you want them to be. Do you want them actually at the table with the rest of the wedding party? If not, an area for them should be assigned. You also want to have a trusted friend or family member taking care of them for the event so you can focus on your wedding reception.

Make sure you have your pets well groomed for the event. You can even get them outfits such as a tuxedo, a dress, or a wedding tiara and veil to help them fit into their role. You can even give them special biscuits and water during the reception when every one else is eating. You do need to understand that some of your guests may be allergic to pets. That can mean they aren’t able to be close to them so it could be a good idea to have open seating for that reason.

Keep in mind that not all wedding reception locations are going to be fine with pets in attendance. You want to clarify this when you are considering booking a given location. That way you don’t end up with any problems either. Keep the temperament of your pet in mind as well. Some animals are extremely shy around people and the idea of a large gathering may make your pet nervous enough to have several accidents throughout the event.

For other pets, they can become on guard and even aggressive when they are around lots of people that they don’t know. You definitely don’t want to risk anyone being hurt. If your reception is going to last for several hours you want to make sure someone can take them for a short walk and to relieve themselves throughout the event.

Finally, you have to make sure you don’t focus all of your attention during the wedding reception on your pets. Your guests may think it is very cute initially that your pets are involved with your wedding reception. Yet if they feel that they have been pushed aside because of it they are likely to pack up and leave your event with a sour taste in their mouths.

Take a few pictures with them and such but then you want to be able to mingle with your guests. Some people feel that pets at the wedding reception are going to take away from the seriousness of the occasion. However, your wedding is no less valid if you include them. In fact, laughter and being free to express yourself are traits that can lead to a wonderful marriage. Therefore including them in your wedding reception is a terrific way to get your life together off to an amazing start.

Pets can be unpredictable though so be prepared for things to happen. If you are a perfectionist and want every single thing to be as it should for the reception then you should second think your choice to include them. When possible, take your pets to the place of the reception in advance such as while you are decorating. That way they can become familiar with it. This will make the excitement of the new place less of an issue when it is time for the wedding reception to start.
