Visiting San Antonio Texas on a whim? Don’t worry about not having things planned ahead. There are plenty of things to do and discover while you’re in San Antonio. A dull moment is just not possible.

Despite strong military presence in San Antonio, the city is contrary to the rigid lifestyle of the military. It can either be fun and exciting or soulful and relaxing, depending on your mood and choice. Whether you are for business and pleasure or just a curious tourist wanting to explore the city’s rich cultural heritage, San Antanio will not run short of activities for you.

You can explore a breathtaking view of the entire city of San Antonio atop a restaurant 550 feet above the ground. The Tower of the Americas offers a terrific view from 360 degree angles. Explore the cafes, shops, and even hotels sitting on San Antonio’s world-famous Riverwalk and capture a stunning view of the San Antonio River and the busy downtown San Antonio streets from very unique angles.

Go Mexican at the San Antonio’s El Mercado and choose from a variety of fruit, vegetable and other selections. The market place is an excellent venue to learn of the culture and lifestyle of people in San Antonio. It is also a unique peek at its Hispanic cultural heritage. The Alamo offers you a glimpse of the religious heritage of the city. The 18th century structure was home to Spanish missionaries and their Indian converts.

For guests wanting to experience the fun and wonder San Antonio has to offer, the SeaWorld Adventure and the Six Flags Fiesta Texas are perfect amusement places. With water themes and cultural, educational and thriller themes, adults and children will love the colorful displays, rides and amusement choices in these places.

Arts enthusiasts would find enough to fill their hands and their eyes with at the McNay Art Museum and the Artisans’ Alley. From exquisite artwork from American and European masters to antiques and holiday souvenir gifts, there is plenty for one with an artistic flair.

Besides San Antonio’s many places to see, visitors can participate and enjoy local shows and events. The Battle of Flowers parade, a tradition which began in 1891 is a commemorative event of the Texas battle for independence. Fiesta San Antonio is a huge city event that celebrates arts and culture.

The Fiesta features exhibits, carnivals and a variety of shows. March brings the Alamo Weekend to life with a reenactment of the famous battle. El Dia de los Muertos (Day of the Dead) and Cinco de Mayo are two of Mexican Feasts celebrated in this city. The Tejano Conjunto Festival on the other hand, is a German-influenced regional celebration of dance and music. The Valero Alamo Bowl is a popular all-American fun college football is hosted every December at the Alamodome.

And, what is a holiday without the shopping experience? San Antonio is a haven for shopaholics of all types – fashionistas, artists, collectors or just the regular people looking for souvenir items. San Antonio’s market square offers you a range of shops, specialty boutiques, and stores offering anything and everything from authentic Mexican crafts, antiques, and hand-crafted metal or woodwork. You’d even find rare collections of Native American jewelry and art pieces along the Artisans’ Alley on the Riverwalk.

So whether you are a busy business person looking for entertainment to wind down, an art enthusiast looking for rare finds or just the regular holiday visitor looking for some excitement and fun, San Antonio has plenty to offer you and your discriminating taste and mood.
