Unless you are a member of the Royal Family, we all have to make sacrifices when it comes to decorating. Even if we have scrimped and saved for years, we all have decorating budgets that we must stick to, so it isn’t a surprise that many people choose to save money on the bar stools they purchase. The question that many wrestle with is, “are cheap bar stools worth it.” In most cases, the answer is no, but most people already know that. The first rule of decorating, after all, is to always go with the best quality because you’ll never regret getting the best. However, since this philosophy is a bit impractical, let’s look at some situations where cheap might be the best way to go.

If you are decorating a particularly large space and you need to fill up the room with pieces that are going to be predominantly ornamental, than going with some of the cheaper options is fine. It is when these cheap bar stools begin to be used on a daily basis that they break down quickly. Going with cheaper than normal furniture pieces is fine in spaces where they are just for looks and not for use.

If you are going to be keeping your selection in an area where they won’t be moved around much, then going with cheaper models may not be a bad idea. One of the biggest appeals to adding stools to a home is that they can be moved from the dining room table to the breakfast nook to the patio and then downstairs to the den for the big game with no worries. If you are only going to be using your stools once per day, say for breakfast, and not again until the next morning, you could possibly get away with getting cheaper stools than you probably should.

Of course, the best argument for getting cheap bar stools is that you simply can’t afford to get anything else. For first time decorators or for recent university graduates who simply don’t have the budget for anything else, cheap stools provide a versatile place to sit that works in any room in your home. Often times, you can pick up cheap stools at second hand stores or used via the Internet, but it is important that you understand exactly what it is that you are buying. These aren’t items that are going to stand up to the test of time very well, so as long as you understand that going in, you will be fine.

Finally, cheap bar stools can be a great way to decorate a guest house or a summer house that you don’t use year round. In most cases, when people own a second property, it isn’t decorated to the standards that the primary living space is. Inexpensive stools provide several methods of use for one low price, but tears should not be shed if they break far sooner than the ones you have on the patio at home.
