Knowing different types of indoor lighting is key to understanding how to correctly light a room. The purpose of lighting is to find a way to illuminate indoor areas as well as look pleasing to the eye. Light sources can come from different artificial sources such as lamps, chandeliers and ceiling lights. Natural lighting can come through windows and skylights. Proper indoor lighting requires coordination between your natural and artificial sources.

Artificial lighting that comes from various indoor lighting sources will be the main focus of this article. Lighting fixtures can come in many forms. Chandeliers are a very popular source of lighting that is used indoors. Chandeliers hang from the ceiling. They are often used as a centerpiece in a large or medium sized room. Chandeliers normally contain more than one light and come in a variety of styles and sizes. Some chandeliers may only contain two or three lights while others have many more. Styles such as transition and tradition are common.

Other forms of indoor lighting include lamps and close to ceiling lights. Lamps come in many forms when used indoor. Table lamps are a very common way of lighting rooms of all sizes from small to large. Table lamps normally only have one or two light bulbs. Lamps are a good way to add light to any room with minimal installation needed. Lamps, specifically table, also come in different styles and sizes. Popular lamp finishes are bronze, painted and black. Another popular form of indoor lighting is close to ceiling lighting. Close to ceiling lights are typically mounted up against the ceiling however some hang lower or farther away from the ceiling than others. This form of lighting typically involves a fixture and glass cover. These lights normally have one bright bulb but may have more.

Pendants vary is size and complexity but on the most part very simple. Pendants are another good choice for indoor lighting for your home. A pendant is often times only one light which hangs down from the ceiling. Most pendants are long and thin in size. Some indoor pendants are more elaborate and may resemble small chandeliers but most are minimal in design often only comprised of a rod which hangs down and a light casing. Many chandeliers have more pieces even if they are the same general size. Pendants generally provide targeted spot lighting. Pendants are useful due to the fact that a spot can be found in any room from bath rooms and foyers to bed rooms and kitchens.

After reviewing many different forms of indoor lighting it is important to remember that you should consider what type of lighting source is right for you. Chandeliers, table lamps and ceiling lights are all good choices. You can decide to allow more or less light into your home through artificial lighting sources. In addition, even more types of indoor lighting is are available such as bath and vanity, ceiling medallions, fluorescents lights, island and billiard lights and many more.
