If you wish to take up plumbing as a career, you should explore some plumbing courses. As part of the construction trade, plumbing is quite specialized, challenging and profitable, too. People today look for trained and qualified plumbers to fix plumbing problems in their homes and commercial businesses. As part of the course, you learn installation, maintenance and ways to troubleshoot your way through plumbing fittings. Plumbers, and their skills, are required in all parts of a house, be it for bathroom fixtures, installations in kitchens, or solving other pipe work problems.

You learn how to ensure water runs freely and reliably, how pipes remain safe, and how to repair leakages and burst pipes. You will be taught all this and more when you take up any of the reliable plumbing courses. The courses are tough in the sense that you need the ability to work hard. Prior plumbing experience is not a prerequisite to taking these courses, but you should have the aptitude to learn. Plumbing is a highly physical job and you should have the inclination to work in cramped spaces, such as under the sink.

Age is also not a factor, though most courses are open for those 18 years and above. Some courses will admit people who are looking for new career options up to age 65.

What You Learn
Plumbing courses are hands-on courses and include both theory and practical training. Taught by the best in the construction and plumbing industry, most courses educate and train you on the most basic as well as complicated plumbing problems. You are supplied with the required tools and materials for the jobs involved during training. The courses also train you in the safety measures you are required to adopt when you do your job.

Courses are held five days a week and last about six hours each day. You are also given some DIY assignments as part of your practical training. The theory part of the plumbing courses would cover the following:

- Health and safety measures
- Various plumbing processes
- Tackling cold water and hot water problems
- Water heating
- Sanitation and drainage
- Trouble shooting
- Maintenance
- Water regulations
- Basics about electrics

On the practical side, the plumbing courses would include:

- Pipe bending and jointing, including on copper pipes
- Installation of plastic tubes
- Soldering
- Fitting new valves, taps, and cisterns
- Changing of old valves, taps, and cisterns
- Repairing domestic as well as commercial plumbing
- Installation of fixtures in the bathrooms as well as radiator installation
- How to recognize plumbing problems

Installation of bathroom fixtures would include installation and replacement of immersion heaters; installation and replacement of electrical showers; and installation and replacement of mixer type showers; among other fixtures. The courses also include installation of washing machines.

You can see that the plumbing courses are quite intensive and extensive and require a great deal of hard work.
