To state the obvious, planning a wedding (and no matter how much help you have) is one of the most stressful moments in one’s life. There is so much to do and so much that you want to be ‘just right.’ And who can blame you? You’re getting married!

However, it is also important to keep in mind that once the wedding day arrives you want to look and feel your best. So, dealing effectively with pre-wedding stress is not something that you should give lip service to, but something you should actually add to the many items on your To-Do list.

You may be thinking that you do not have enough time to relax, but there is always some time in a day (even if for a couple of minutes) that you can take to bring your wedding stress levels down.

If you happen to be reading this before the wedding planning has taken off at full-speed, why not take the time now to think about which things you can schedule in your week that are enjoyable and not wedding related. Or if you are reading this because you are in desperate need of wedding stress relief, it’s not too late.

Tips for Handling Pre-wedding Stress

Keep Active
Although you may be exercising to get into your wedding dress, keeping up a regular exercise routine is one of the best things that you can do to keep stress at bay. If you are not a gym lover, there are other activities that can raise the heart rate, such as walking, tennis, biking, etc. Choose something that takes the least amount of effort and one, of course, that you enjoy. If possible, you should schedule some time (anywhere from ½ hour to 1 hour) that gets you up and moving.

Calming Down
There will be many times when you will need to step away and calm the nerves. Make sure you have things on your schedule that are relaxing. It could be a Yoga class after work, a massage or spa treatment, or something as simple as throwing your favorite bubble bath into the tub at the end of the day. Whatever it is make sure it is at a time when you won’t easily be interrupted or are rushed for time.

A Little Help from Friends
Although it may be tempting to spend your time with girlfriends wedding shopping or pouring over the latest bridal magazines, it’s important to have moments when your wedding is not the main topic of conversation. So do things you would normally do together with friends. Plus, your friends will also appreciate spending some quality time with you.

Delegate!
If you have not done so already, take a look at that long To-Do list and under your name see if there are some things that you can get some help with. Just because you thought you could handle 50 items six months ago does not mean that you cannot decide later to share the load. And don’t forget your fiancé, as he might very well want to do anything to help lower your stress levels.

Get Away from it All
Just because you’ve already booked your honeymoon trip does not mean that you have to wait for months for a vacation. Although you may not have it in your budget or time to escape to Hawaii, you and your fiancé can still spend some time together that does not involve talking about flower arrangements. Choose a location close to home or for a day take a long drive or for a hike. Or schedule a dirty weekend at a local hotel or romantic B&B.
