Throughout Dublin, there are many lovely parks and gardens to visit where you can enjoy your day. Whether you are with family, friends, or even on a school trip, each of these places will provide you with an unforgettable day. Here are some of my personal favourites:

National Botanic Gardens- These gardens contain a huge collection of some beautiful plants and covers approximately 19 hectares of land. Some of the many plants in these Botanic Gardens are roses, shrubs, vegetables and arboretum. This garden is situated only 3.5km north from Dublin centre. The public transport surrounding the Botanic Gardens is excellent.

War Memorial Gardens- These gardens are well known throughout Europe and elsewhere. These gardens where designed to remember and respect the Irish soldiers who fought and died in war. These gardens will not only make you think about the soldiers, they will also provide you with an excellent day out and make you see the natural beauty of the world. The War Memorial Gardens contains amazing, colourful plants which can be seen throughout the gardens as well as in the rose gardens and the borders.

Marlay Park- This local park is fantastic for a day out with family and friends, and is only 6 miles from the city centre. Marlay Park is about 120 hectares and has used the space wisely, with many things to do, for example, there are tennis courts, ponds, a play area for the kids, a cricket pitch and a mini golf course. Many of Dublin's buses come directly to Marley Park. The nearest buses are 14, 16, 75, 48A, 16C and 14A.

The Dillon Garden- This garden's opening and closing times change throughout the year. In March, August and July, it is open from 2-6pm. In September, June, April and May on Sundays it is open from 2-6pm aswell. This garden is situated approximately 100 yards from Sandford Road. There is an entry fee.

Phoenix Park- This park can be entered on Parkgate Street and is free of charge to enter. The park is 1760 acres and is only 3km from the city centre. There is plenty to do, for example, there are nature trails and ornamental gardens. The park is covered in many different trees, such as oak, pine, lime and chestnut trees. For further information, you can call (01)-6770095.

St Stephen’s Green- This 22 acre park is lovely; it has trees, flowerbeds, lakes and a fountain. The park is open throughout the day, however it closes at night. This park is the perfect place to go with the family and children.

Garden of Remembrance- This quiet and peaceful park was made to remember those who died for Irish freedom. The Garden of Remembrance is lovely for long, quiet walks and would make a great day out.

Tolka Valley Park- This park is 345 acres and has woodlands, wetlands, fields and many plants. The public transport to and from Tolka Valley Park is excellent and for those people who have cars there is an average sized car park.

Each of these parks and gardens are worth visiting and would make a fantastic day out.
