The day had finally arrived, one I had been dreading and having sleepless nights about for weeks – it was my 30th birthday! I would usually start planning my birthday antics months in advance and would not just celebrate on the day but for days after. But leaving my 20’s behind had started to make me question what I had been doing for the past decade? Should I be married? Have kids? Ambitious career?

I got the usual presents for my birthday, CDs, perfume, chocolate and all the stuff you get from your Nan which went straight down to the charity shop. Orange balaclavas were never my thing! But when I opened my final present from my parents to say I was ecstatic is an understatement. I had received a day in a recording studio which included me and two other people. As my sisters and I had always fancied ourselves as Destiny’s Child I thought it only fair to let them come along. They are now forever in my debt.

The days leading up to my big day were ones filled with both nerves and excitement. I have always been told I could sing since the days of singing into my hairbrush and bellowing out the ballads in the shower. But it was my Mum who told me that and I feel she might have been being biased, although I did get chosen to do a solo when I was eight in my school choir. This indeed was a very proud moment.

On arrival to the studios I was instantly made to feel at ease by Martin who was responsible for looking after me on the day. This guy was a total professional and made my day one to remember. The day was totally chilled and laidback and just felt like I was doing my usual stint on karaoke down my local pub. This had been the nearest I had got to being a pop star but it was always after a few wines.

The whole day was a family outing as my Mum and Dad came to watch the stars in action. I was the main performer and my sisters were my backing singers. The equipment and the atmosphere were amazing, I got to see what it was like behind the mixing desk and my life ambition had become a reality. I think there is an inner pop star in everyone waiting to unleashed and this was my moment.

I got to choose from a huge selection of tracks but I had already made my mind up about doing Girls Aloud’s ‘I’ll stand by you’. Once Martin had done all his producing and I had changed anything I was unhappy with I got to listen to the final result. Amazing! I am so proud and am itching to get myself booked in again. This whole experience was such a confidence boost and made me feel so special. My Mum and Dad have already booked themselves in and are going to do a rendition of John Travolta and Olivia Newton John. This is definitely one to watch and I am thinking I should take some earplugs, just incase.
