Blogging almost seems like a rite of passage these days. For a while there, there were many who felt that simply having a Myspace page or Live Journal page were equivalent to blogging. The answer to this is that the two are completely different....sort of. First of all, there are many different types of blogging applications and blog hosting sites out there. The two most popular ones that I can think of off the top of my head are Google's “Blogger” and another blog host called Wordpress. Both are great for first-time or seasoned bloggers. You can create multiple blog sites for yourself using either of these two blog sites.

For business purposes, blogging is a great way to get in touch with customers or clients who have used your product or service before and who you want to get feedback from. Blogging is also a great way to reach out to your consumers and let them know about the various deals or new things that are going on with your website. To do this, you create blog posts that are interesting and which help to generate a buzz about certain topics that tie into the overall theme of your website. Within these blog posts, you might include links that go to various pages within the site map on your website. So, for example, if you have a website in which you provide Internet consultation services, you might create a blog that is a spin off of that idea in which you post information about Internet-related news, ideas and fun things as it comes up. Let's say you offered social media consultations on your website. You might write a blog post related to something popular that is going on in the social media world right now. Within that blog post, you would then make sure that you linked back to the social media page somewhere on your web site so that readers reading it would click on it.

At the heart of blogging is making sure that your content is up to date. Readers want to read something that is eye catching and draws their attention in. This is why it is worth it to spend a little time deliberating over your blog titles. Think of new ways to draw people in and get them to interact. There are all sorts of polls that you can create online in order to execute this idea. Ask readers questions and see if you can get answers. One of the main things that indicates how good a blog is doing is how many comments you are getting on blog posts. If you know someone else who has a blog, you may feel inclined to comment on their blog post. However, you should always be keeping your eye out for unfamiliar faces to draw into the conversation. These are the people who you want to get hooked on your blog because then they will naturally create a buzz about it, “Hey, you should check out this blog that I was reading the other day...”
