Scenario paintball differs from speedball or other types of paintball in that it adheres to a theme much in the fashion of role playing or historical reenactment battles. There are a wide variety of scenarios available including historic reenactments of events such as the D-Day invasion, popular movie battles and other such themes. One of the other unique aspects of scenario paintball is that they are generally huge games that involve many hours or days of playing and hundreds or thousands of players on two or more teams. Depending on the length of the scenario, players that are out with a hit will be able to reenter the game after a certain length of time.

Scenario paintball games are generally planned on a national or regional level with several large sponsors. Most of the time you will be expected to purchase all of your paintballs and air at the field in addition to the sometimes hefty admissions fees. Putting on a scenario is fairly costly in terms of renting space, props, and paying the appropriate referees and medics to attend the event. By requiring players to use only sponsor products, the cost of the event and any prizes awarded are defrayed.

Scenario events that last more than one day will often include night time operations as well. Your marker may need to be chrono'd differently for day and night time play, so its a good idea to make sure you know and understand the rules for the scenario. If you don't know the rules, you will be at a significant disadvantage to your team mates.

The fields used for scenario events will generally be much larger than any you have ever encountered before. Sometimes the field may be as large as 100 acres or more. When playing an epic scenario on such a field, its important to have plenty of water with you at all times to combat heat and dehydration types of injuries. Using a bladder will enable you to keep hydrated while keeping your face mask on at all times. Remarkably, scenario events tend to have the same low rate of injury as other types of paintball games. Due to the large size and extended play times, however, heat related injuries are more likely.

In addition to offering epic battles across a larger field with a longer play time, most scenario events also require you to take on a role that is usually predefined before the event begins. This allows you to immerse yourself in the scenario. Playing up your role will really help you get the most enjoyment out of the event as well as add another dimension entirely to your paintball play.

If you are looking to add a new dimension to your paintball play, scenario paintball is an excellent way to do that. Many teams that form during scenarios form life long bonds amongst the players and return year after year to play together again. While many scenarios will be military style reenactments, you can also find other holiday and movie related themes to suit your tastes.
