Upholsteries make our home interiors look more beautiful. People want to keep it clean all the time. And this brought rise to the cleaning upholstery businesses.

Upholstery Cleaning Services

Upholstery is the work of providing furniture, particularly seats with webbing, springs, padding and leather or fabric covers. An automobile upholsterer can also refer to motor trimmers, coach trimmers or simply trimmers. The term “coach trimmer” is derived from the early days, during the time when manufacturers created automobile bodies and distributed coachbuilders in order to add interior trimmings and an automobile body.

Tips on Starting your Own Upholstery Cleaning Service

Take advantage of the free counseling and training services. Contact the SBA or Small Business Administration and ask for an advice about starting an upholstery cleaning service. Another option is go to the nearest library in your home and research about the upholstery cleaning business. You can also visit your local Chamber of Commerce. The local chamber of commerce is a helpful source of significant information, especially on opportunities and processes for the promotion of your own business.

Write a big yet feasible business plan and be professional looking. Bring it with you if you are going to a bank for financing. Start cleaning upholstery in your friend or family relative’s house. As you begin an upholstery cleaning service, concentrate on customer satisfaction, good communication and quality service.

Promote your upholstery cleaning service by printing flyers and advertising it even on television. Mention that your business is insured and licensed. Try to give flexible time to accommodate your customers. Set a goal for yourself, be self-disciplined and have the determination to succeed.

Upholstery Cleaning at Home

How to Clean Upholstered Furniture

You will need materials like cleaning cloths, detergents, electric fans, dusting brush with handle, power brush vacuum, plastic bucket and plastic scrapers.

The first thing to do is to remove every loose cushion. Brush to loosen up the dirt using the brush accessory of a vacuum. Then, vacuum every surface of the furniture such as the back, skirt, arms, sides and the platform under the cushion. You can also vacuum both sides of your loose cushions.

The next step is to add about ¼ cup of liquid dish detergent or laundry detergent to 1 cup of warm water and mix it using an electric mixer. Whip the blend until the sud looks like whipped cream.

Test if it will fade by immersing a cloth in suds. Afterwards, rub it in a small place along the front, side or back of the furniture. Select a furniture section where you can drop the cloth and rub suds on it. Dust starts to appear in suds as they work. Use the scraper to scrape the suds away. Then, rinse the area with a damp cloth. Allow it to dry overnight using an electric fan on the furniture.

Heed some tips and warning. A great way to maintain upholstered furniture clean is by using the preventative process. Vacuum it every week so as to remove dirt and prevent serious soiling of the fabric. Change the rinsing water, cleaning cloths and suds as needed.

Tips on Cleaning Upholstery at Home

You basically need an upholstery cleaner, a vacuum, a soft bristled cleaning brush and a white cleaning rag.

First, brush the place using a soft bristled cleaning brush in order to release some dried stain or dirt. Then, vacuum the upholstery cleaner in order to remove all debris and dirt. Take note that before using the upholstery cleaner; you need to test it in a small and hidden spot of cloth or fabric like the bottom or back of cushion. Several upholstery cleaners can damage or bleach the fabric. If your upholstery is damaged or bleached, try a different type.
