The Vendee region of France is home to many unique and interesting festivals throughout the year. However, during the month of September, the imminent end of the holiday season signals the start of some of the Vendee’s best autumn festivals:

Cinescenie - Son et Luminere

This spectacular son-et-luminere light show at the renowned Puy du Fou theme park, takes place from June to October and retells the vibrant history of the Vendee region. Actors not only recreate key scenes in the areas history, but the beautifully illuminated buildings and jousting displays ensure a great night out for all members of the family. Although the show doesn’t start until 10.30pm, the theme park in itself is also worth a day trip whilst camping in the Vendee. Why not return the next morning where the whole family is guaranteed to have a memorable day out?

Festival Face et Si

Music aficionados will love the Vendee’s famous music festival, which takes place from the 11-14 September. Face et Si, combines an eclectic mix of rock, jazz and comedy, with a choice of concerts taking place in an open air concert hall at Mouilleron-La-Captif, a scenic village located close to La Roche Sur Yon. Whether its music or comedy that’s your thing, the festival will provide you with an excellent night out whilst camping in the Vendee.

Fete de la Fressure

The humble blood pudding is celebrated in this bizarre festival, and whilst the very idea of the dish may sound positively disgusting, the food is held in high regard throughout the Vendee region. This popular event not only celebrates the best of the local manufacturers, but also the wines which compliment this dish. If you’re a fan of the British black pudding, then you’re bound to enjoy this festival, which takes place during mid-September.

Festival de Jardiniers

If you prefer botany to blood sausages, then you may want to forget the Fete de la Fressure and check out the Festival de Jardiniers on your camping holiday in Vendee instead. This year’s event is dedicated to ‘forgotten vegetables’ and aims to reintroduce guests with vegetables which have been forgotten throughout time. The festival, which takes place on 13 September, not only provides ample opportunity for tasting the produce but also plenty of horticultural advice for the not so green-fingered amongst you.

Caval’Oceane

Camping in the Vendee region during September is the perfect excuse to visit the equestrian event of Caval’Oceane. This takes place on the sands of St. Jean de Monts during low-tide and features a number of horsey-based activities from a gymkhana to calm pony rides around the beach. Highlights include a game of horse football and the stunt-riding show which provides the main finale to the day’s events.

Raid des Chaussees

The super-fit amongst you may be tempted to combine a camping holiday in the Vendee with participation in the gruelling Raid des Chaussees. This race is a combination of cycling, and running, both along, above, and through the Sevre Nantaise River. However, if you don’t fancy taking part then you can always turn to watch the event for free. There are various viewpoints along the banks of the river, though you may not want to stand too close!
