Parents are always excited when they are about to have a baby. They prepare everything – from the clothes and bottles to the baby’s room or the nursery. Preparing the nursery can be considered as the most important among all. That’s because the nursery will be the place for your baby to sleep and grow, so the nursery must be well-prepared. It should be safe for your baby. How do you ensure that the nursery is safe for your baby? Let’s find out.

When preparing the nursery, the baby bedding should be your focus. After all, the crib is where your baby will spend most of his or her time. When you think about baby bedding, don’t just focus on the colors and themes that you will be using. The crib should be made safe for the baby. The baby should also feel at ease on the crib. You need to prepare the mattress cover, crib sheets and the crib skirt.

The mattress cover that you will use should fit firmly on the mattress. You can look for mattress covers that have a zipper to secure the mattress. To put leak messes to a minimum, you should use a waterproof mattress cover.

The crib sheets that you will buy should be of high quality. You’ll be changing the crib sheets regularly because your baby can get it wet, even if he has a diaper on. So the crib sheet should be able to endure regular washing. It is also a good idea to buy many crib sheets so that you don’t have to wash the crib sheets daily.

The crib skirt is attached below the mattress and is hanged down. It is only for decorative purposes, but it can hide the things that are placed below the crib.

Bumper pads are originally part of the crib, but not anymore. Bumper pads are said to make the crib a lot safer, but that is not the case. The truth is, experts believe that bumper pads contribute to the cause of sudden infant death syndrome (SIDS). Furthermore, babies might step on the bumper pads and use it to go up and get out of the crib.

Blankets was also said to help the baby keep warm while they sleep, but blankets are also believed to contribute to SIDS. Babies can get trapped in the blanket and thus make them choke. So instead of using blankets, simply make sure that your baby is wearing warm and comfortable clothes.

Now that all the things needed to keep your baby safe on the crib are defined, it is important to know the material that should be used for the baby bedding. Cotton is the preferred item since it is soft and cannot cause allergic reactions. Your baby should also feel comfortable when sleeping on bedding made of cotton. You should also check on the quality of the items that you are buying. Plan for how long you would use the bedding. You may want to use it for only a few months, or use it for your next baby.
