The Very First Step to Losing That Weight - Before You Even Get Off the Couch, Read This!!

There has been a huge move towards various diet programs in the last few years. Everything from drinking lemonade mixed with cayenne pepper and maple syrup, to juice fasting, to diet pills, to celebrity fads and just about everything in between. There are diet delivery products, fasts, cheesy exercise equipment, and a ton more. You have to stop looking for the easy fix if you are going to get serious about your weight loss.

If you are overweight like I used to be, you have to recognize that you alone are responsible. Your overeating, unhealthy lifestyle, and inactivity have gotten you to where you are today. Just own it. There is no sense in denying it any more. Don’t believe the psychologists that it has something to do with your past and push the blame on to someone else. You did it… Ok, did you admit it? Good. That is the first step.

Now, what to do about it... Take a brief moment to think about all of the hours and hours you’ve spent eating bad food, sitting on your butt, and simply getting fatter. It’s a lot of time isn’t it? When I think back, I can literally think of thousands of hours I spend in front of the tv stuffing my face late at night. Maybe it was for comfort, maybe it was a habit… it doesn’t really matter. At this point I just have to recognize it.

Now ask yourself this very important question: do you really think you can lose all of the that weight with a 15 day program?? If you answered yes, you’ve gotten out of touch with reality and need to come back to planet earth. Getting your body back to the way it should be takes time. You will need to recover all of those hours you spent torturing your body. It’s not a quick and easy process. But it can be done!

So here comes the pep talk portion of this article. You can do it! There are hundreds of thousands of people just this year alone that have gotten off the sofa and taken action. Aren’t you sick of feeling sick? Do you hate the way you look? Do something about it!

The best thing about being fat in 2010 is that there are so many incredible resources at your disposal. If there was ever a time to lose weight, it’s now.

Here are a few of the cool options available to you in 2009/2010: Nike Plus lets you track your exercise stats and share them online with others. Services like Nutrisystem and Diet to Go provide diet food delivered right to your doorstep which takes the hassle out of counting calories, weighing food, and shopping each week. There are calorie counters, BMI trackers, and a ton of other services that will help you along your journey. Make sure to take advantage of them!

So… What’s the take away?

• Own your weight gain. You alone made the decision to get overweight, you alone can make the decision to lose the weight.

• Wake up and face reality. You can’t lose weight and keep it off with another fad diet or pill. It’s unhealthy and won’t last. You need lifestyle change, not just a diet.

• You are perfectly capable of losing the weight. Don’t give up!
